Vegetarian Crowned Germany’s Strongest Man
We love a good stereotype buster, and we’re always pleased to report on vegan and vegetarian athletes. A while ago we told you about Rob Bogwood, one of the top arm wrestlers in the US and a committed vegan, proving muscle and meat are not mutually inclusive. But wait, there’s more.
There’s actually a lot more – Carl Lewis, Scott Jurek, Tour de France cyclist Dave Zabriskie… the list grows each year. In this case, we’re talking about Patrik Baboumian, also know as Germany’s 2011 Strongest Man winner, and a man who is considered one of the strongest in the world.

Patrik, who will be featured in the upcoming documentary Tour de Force, credits vegetarianism with his buffed out success, and based on his blog, we get the impression he had been advised at some point that he should be eating meat. We’re speculating, of course, but how do you interpret this entry:
“After being LW champion in 2007 and 2009 and HW vice-champion in 2010, I finally hold the German crown in strength sports in my hands. It was a very hard battle in the rain and I had to fight against my injured calf as well but at the end I was victorious! Now I have proven finally, that being vegetarian makes you a better athlete!”
