7.1 Earthquake Off Alaskan Coast
A 7.1 magnitude earthquake was measured today just off the Alaskan coast, near the Aleutian Islands. The US Geological Survey immediately issued a tsunami warning which was then consequentially lifted after about an hour.
The warning was for areas of the Aleutians such as the Unalaska/Dutch Harbor, the village of Atka, and Adak.
The US Geological Survey hasn not received reports of damage, saying in a statement that the quake “did happen in a very remote area and there are no towns close to the epicenter,” he said.
The earthquake, which struck at 1055 GMT, was 22.1 miles deep, according to the agency.
