(Madison, WI) – Nearly the entire massive ice sheet that blankets Greenland suddenly started melting this month, even its coldest places. In just a few days, the amount of thawed ice sheet surface skyrocketed from 40 percent to 97 percent. This continues the shocking heating and melting of the Arctic, which is severely impacting the Northern hemisphere’s weather – including contributing to America’s dramatic drought and heat wave – through changes in the jet and gulf streams.
According to a NASA press release which includes a stunning satellite interpretation of the melt –about half of Greenland’s surface ice sheet naturally melts during an average summer. But data from three independent satellites this July showed that in that on July 8, about 40 percent of the ice sheet had undergone thawing at or near the surface. In just a few days, the melting dramatically accelerated and an estimated 97 percent of the ice sheet surface had thawed by July 12. Carbon pollution thresholds appear to have been reached whereby the Greenland ice sheet will begin to fully melt, raising sea levels by as much as 7 meters ’22ft’.
“We welcome NASA’s ability to monitor the Arctic, yet statements there is no cause for concern are just ridiculous. I don’t accept this is a natural cycle; it is too coincident with Arctic sea ice melt, and what is happening to the Arctic in general. That is a complete mistrepresentation of the truth. NASA has issued no such thing. They made a press reslease a day or so ago stating their satalites had recorded the c250 year phenomena of surface melt over Greenland. It is caused a localised high front that got trapped over Greenland for a few days longer than a average July. Not global warming. The last time it happend was in 1889, so this event is bang on time.
It’s interesting tho because the warmests are all claiming the press is skeptical when they are scaremongering morons. They claim skeptical scientists are Big Oil insiders and yet the IPCC is being run by a Big Oil owning insider.

While it it something to take notice of, keep in mind that this says SURFACE MELT not total ice sheet melt. IT doesn’t even say what depth of the ice surface it melting. This is being blown out of proportion.

Greenland has the only permanent ice sheet in the Arctic. Covering about 80% of the world’s largest island, it is the largest ice mass in the Northern Hemisphere (Map).
Its BIG: The ice sheet extends 1,570 miles / 2,530 km north to south, and has a maximum width of 680 miles / 1,094 km.
Its THICK: Average ice thickness is about 5,000 feet / 1,500 meters, but the northern dome had a depth of up to 11,000 feet / 3,400 meters.
Its HUGE: This huge mass of ice makes up about 1/8th of the total global ice-mass, and contains about 12% of the world’s glacial ice. If it melted, the sea level world-wide would rise 23 feet / 7 meters.
As large as it is, the Greenland ice sheet is only about 1/8 the size of the Antarctic ice sheet.

Actually Hsaive it was caused by a local high pressure weather front getting trapped over Greenland for a few days more than normal for July. It is a regular event that happens every c150 years. The cosmic ray hypothesis has not been proven yet, but it is cosmic rays external to our solar system that gain entry when our sun in inactive, and causes ionisation of atmosphreic particles that create clouds. Not as you’ve suggested caused by our sun directly.

NASA did not issue a warning, just some climate change group. The phenomena in Greenland happens every 150 years or so. No cause for alarm, unless it continues or occurs frequently. The entire ice cap did not melt, only thawed on the surface.
