Recent Natural Disasters

Massive snowstorm in U.S. Midwest
-Eight killed in recent U.S. Midwest snowstorms. Fatalities are reported from Utah, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin and Nebraska.
-The Weather Channel said around 27 centimetres of snow covered parts of Wisconsin, with around 20 centimetres in Omaha, Nebraska.
-Snowstorm canceled more than 600 flights at Chicago’s two airports, O’Hare and Midway. Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and American Airlines also canceled their flights.
-Most major roads across Iowa remained closed due to snow and ice buildup.
-Many schools across Nebraska and Iowa were closed. Final exams at University of Wisconsin at Madison was also canceled.
-According to the National Weather Service, blizzard warnings were in effect in Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois.
-Avalanche warning is currently issued for Mount Shasta as four to seven feet of snow is forecast to fall (Photo: Snow-covered cars in a parking lot in Madison, Wisconsin, AP).

Flooding in Long Eaton, England
-Train delayed between Derby and Long Eaton due to flooding.
-Roads in the Doncaster and Dearne areas were also closed due to flooding as heavy rain continues in South Yorkshire.

One woman reported to be killed due to cold wave in Gareyala VDC in Rukum, Nepal.
