Siemens Marsh Landing Generating Station Dedicated

June 20, 2013 – The operator of the Marsh Landing Generating station in California,  held a dedication ceremony  to celebrate going into commercial operation on May 1, 2013.  The Marsh Landing Generating Station is situated in Antioch, California, about 40 miles northeast of San Francisco.  Siemens supplied 4 SGT6-5000F gas turbines, 4  SGen-1000A generators, the SPPA-T3000 control system and auxiliary and secondary systems for the power plant as well as providing technical support with installation and commissioning.  The end customer is U.S. power supply company NRG Energy, Inc. The gas-fueled power plant can provide up to 720 megawatts (MW) of flexible electrical generation to the California grid, which is enough to supply 650,000 homes.

During commissioning, the capability was demonstrated for all 4 F-Class turbines to ramp up reliably to the full load of 720 MW in 12 minutes, further substantiating Siemens proven Fast-Start capability. Also,  Siemens Fast–Start technology demonstrated that it can minimize transient emissions while fast ramping. Siemens assisted the customer in achieving and maintaining low stack emissions, while ramping the gas turbine, between 60% to base load. “Siemens state of the art Fast-Start technology and emissions controls, demonstrated that we can meet California’s aggressive environmental goals and clean air standards”, said John Chillemi, President of NRG’s West Region. “The Fast-Start technology employed by Marsh Landing also supports the integration of new renewable energy sources that are expected to come online over the next decade”.
