Dismantling Earth’s structural systems: climate change comes home to roost

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

By Frosty Wooldridge

We humans add one billion (1,000,000,000) of our kind, net gain, every 12 years.  We constitute the most prolific vertebrate species on the globe at 7.2 billion on our way to 10.1 billion within 36 years—by 2050.  Subsequently, humans prove the most destructive force on planet Earth in the history of the animal kingdom.

So destructive, in fact, we may snap our own necks before the end of this century. Not only do we face our own demise, we extinguish millions of other necessary species in our carbon footprint wake.

(Billions of smoke stacks from cars, homes, trucks, trains, factories, electrical plants, tractors, lawn mowers and much more—exhaust billions of tons of carbon and particulate into the biosphere 24/7.  Our planet cannot endure such abuse and won’t tolerate us much longer.) Photography by National Geographic.

In the past week, NBC’s Brian Williams announced humanity’s carbon exhaust impact upon the planet. Today, 97 percent of top climate scientists attest to mankind’s carbon footprint exhaust re-sculpting the entire planet in ways that undermine Earth’s ability to support all life as well as sustain the natural world.

(Billions of cars contaminate the biosphere 24/7 with no end in sight.  Billions more of these vehicles proliferate as the human race adds another three billion within the next 3.5 decades, reaching 10.1 billion.)  Photography by National Geographic

“No one is immune: study offers bleak climate change outlook” by Ann Thompson, NBC correspondent, March 31, 2014 Evening News with Brian Williams.

Thompson asked Princeton head of the Geoscience Department, Michael Oppenheimer,  “Who should be concerned?”  He said, “Everyone who eats food.”

As if that video wasn’t enough, NBC correspondent Ann Curry hosted an hour long Special Report: “One year of extremes: did climate change hit home?”  Sunday, April 6, 2014:

After you grasp the raw science of what we humans face, try to understand what the Inuit native in Alaska said, “We experience climate change every day. It’s happening before our eyes.  Why should we pay the price for your lifestyle?”

(Santiago, Chile’s brown cloud saturates the air 24/7 with carbon and particulate that ends up melting the snow and ice in Antarctica and acidifies the oceans to kill the ecosystems that nourish the phytoplankton that creates 80 percent of the oxygen on this planet.)  Photography by Global Post

Ironically, if not oxymoronically, Ann Curry never spoke once of the “human population explosion” during the entire hour-long show.  At the end she weakly stated that we continue developing solar power energy sources knowing that nothing in the world can replace oil to the tune of 80 million barrels burned 24/7.  In fact we reached Peak Oil in 2011, and it’s all downhill until oil becomes exhausted within 40 years—yet we must feed our enormous human mob.

(India sports 1.2 billion people on its way to 1.55 billion in 30 years. It adds 11 million net gain annually with no intention to engage birth control because of religious propensities. Its carbon footprint will outstrip China’s within three decades.  China will reach 1.5 billion as it adds 27 million new vehicles annually, which promises unimaginable carbon exhaust into the biosphere.)  Photography by Fred Hoogervorst

On top of Curry’s naive promotion of alternative energy, she failed to mention we humans expect to add yet another 3,000,000,000 (billion) more of ourselves within the next 36 years.   The blame lies with NBC producers who, by design, refuse to address the main factor for climate change: human overpopulation.  It remains the paramount sacred-cow-taboo of the 21st century.

(We exhaust billions of tons of poison into the air and we throw billions of tons of plastic onto the land and into the oceans. What in the hell are we doing to ourselves and every living creature on the planet?)

What do I suggest?  Answer: every single human being reading this column may choose to write all the addresses furnished below to push this population predicament to every leader, newscaster and media outlet in every country around the world.  If you choose otherwise, who do you think will get off their butts to do it for you?  How will your kids escape what we created for them?  How else do you think we can change the fate of the planet and the entire natural world?

I’m tired of rhetoric, debate, discourse, dialogue and sermons.  Eleanor Roosevelt said it 50 years ago; “We must prevent human tragedy rather than run around trying to save ourselves after an event has already occurred.  Unfortunately, history clearly shows that we arrive at catastrophe by failing to meet the situation, by failing to act when we should have acted.  The opportunity passes us by and the next disaster is always more difficult and compounded than the last one.”

NBC portrayed this frightening global climate destabilization fact.  In turn, we must elevate this single greatest phenomenon of the 21st century to maximum international attention.  We must engage talk radio, television and print media to educate citizens around the world.  We must open media exposure to obliterate the present obfuscation now dominating the world stage.

We must push for real leadership. We must encourage scientists to speak up.  Fact: we must stabilize world population and begin now to lower it via one child per woman with birth control. We either take action compassionately and/or Mother Nature will stomp on us as easily as we take the heel of our shoes and mash a cockroach.   We must change all energy consumption via combustion engines to sailing ships, solar, wind turbines, walking centric cities, bicycle and electrical mass transit.  We must sprint away from oil, natural gas and coal consumption.

All life on this planet faces a rude awakening as seen on NBC’s Special Report with Ann Curry.  Melting ice, hurricanes, droughts, fires and acidified oceans will grow in their intensities, frequencies and abject horrors for humans. Your actions count; take them today.  Your kids will thank you in the decades to come with all the rest of the natural world.
