Nissan + ChargePoint Team Up For “No Charge to Charge” Promotion

Two key players in the electric vehicle industry — auto-giant and manufacturer of the wildly popular LEAF electric vehicle Nissan, and ChargePoint, the biggest and most-open EV charging network in the US — have now teamed up to offer free charging to Nissan customers, and to create a new, first-of-its-kind access platform, the EZ-ChargeSM card.

The new “No Charge to Charge” promotion, as it’s been dubbed, gives Nissan customers easy (and free????) access to ChargePoint’s 16,500+ charging locations, all with nothing but one single all-access card.

ChargePoint’s CEO, Pasquale Romano, had this to say about the partnership: “Since we formed, ChargePoint has led the way on interoperability. In early 2013, we launched CollaboratEV alongside Ecotality to provide EV drivers one membership card, allowing them to seamlessly charge among multiple charging networks. After Ecotality’s bankruptcy, we continued to make interoperability a priority and we’re excited to announce that we’ve taken the first step with Nissan’s EZ-ChargeSM card.”

While Ecotality had issues requiring it to bow out, there’s no denying that electric vehicles and electric vehicle charging has marched forward. The wonderful thing that ChargePoint continues to offer is a very open system that will enable the greatest rate of EV expansion, something Nissan appreciates. Here’s more from Romano:

ChargePoint focuses on drivers and everything we do is aimed at providing a seamless driving experience. That’s why we’ve partnered with major automakers to provide ChargePoint’s real-time network data in navigation units, through mobile apps and giving drivers access to our network of over 16,500 charging locations in the glove box. The ability to offer free charging across our network is an added benefit with ChargePoint and we’re excited to provide the option to all our partners. While Nissan’s ‘No Charge to Charge’ program is focused specifically on DC fast chargers, ChargePoint is committed to providing a fuel credit option across all our public stations.

These programs are an exciting addition to our existing partnership with Nissan, which includes providing real-time data in the Leaf’s navigation unit and more recently, the addition of 50 DC Fast Chargers at Nissan dealerships on the ChargePoint network. We’re looking forward to working with all automakers to provide these service to their drivers.
