Brazil water crisis: 56 Northeastern cities are in state of collapse, says government

BRASÍLIA — Em mais uma reunião do governo para avaliar a crise hídrica por que passa parte do país, o diagnóstico é que, no Nordeste, há neste momento 56 cidades em situação de colapso, ou seja, há mais de quatro dias sem água. Segundo o governo, há uma operação de carros pipa em curso sendo gerenciada pelos governos estaduais e municipais. No Sudeste, apesar das chuvas de março, o regime de águas foi inferior ao esperado e os reservatórios do Rio de Janeiro e de São Paulo continuam operando abaixo da média.

Em relação ao Nordeste, a União pediu um diagnóstico e disse que irá tomar outras medidas com o Exército. Estima-se que até 105 cidades nordestinas podem entrar em situação de colapso. O ministro da Integração Nacional, Gilberto Occhi, afirmou que na próxima reunião do grupo de trabalho que monitora a crise hídrica dentro do governo, serão avaliadas a situação das obras de 500 poços e sistemas de abastecimento de água em andamento no Nordeste.
