Edith Piaf! what a surprise! thank you!
She surely did not need a sound amplifier! I was too young to remember the Alger putsch by the French Foreign Legion when the ” Non Je Ne Regrette Rien” song was the refrain used by the putschistes Paratroop Legionnaires’ after their noble rebellion had been crushed, but I remember like yesterday when Edith Piaf’s death was announced. It was the same day as Jean Cocteau the poet & filmmaker died. Jean Cocteau was a long date & close friend of Edith Piaf and he passed away a few hours after learning of the passing away of Edith. my God, it was nearly a national funeral!
Edith Piaf had an enormously loving heart with many lovers throughout her life, however she was not a user, but a giver. Among her many lovers, she helped lunch the career of Ives Montand, Charles Aznavour et al. Her last marriage was with a young singer name Teo Zarapo, but Edith died before this last lover was made famous. I feel reminding, or telling of a MIRACLE she was blessed at a young age. Please take the time to read the lines below, it is worth it.
Edith Piaf was abandoned by her mother who was a prostitute. Edith never met her mother who disappear, but was raised by her grand-mother who was a madam operating a (legal) brothel in Paris. As a child, the young Edith became blind. Her grand-mother, who was well to do, could afford the best ophthalmologist, but nothing “but a miracle” could regain the eyesight to “La Môme” (the kid-girl). Well!…

…. As a child, the young Edith became blind. Her grand-mother, who was well to do, could afford the best ophthalmologist, but nothing “but a miracle” could regain the eyesight to “La Môme” (the kid-girl). Well! a miracle did cure the cecity of the child. One of the working girl (of grand-ma’s brothel) took the little blind girl on her day off on a pilgrimage towards Lisieux. Lisieux started to be known while St. Therese of Lisieux was not canonized yet or was about to be canonized. It was a day trip by train. Edith Piaf recovered her view a few days later to the great astonishment of the doctors. This miracle is documented in the annals of the Church.
END.
