RIP Orla
It is now fifteen (15) years since we lost Orla and as another year goes by I continue to miss the fact that she didn’t get to have a long life, and enjoy being with Moreno and Saidi (the only two of our cats that she knew). It is because of her that we adopted Oscar, and as he turned 15 this week it is always a bitter/sweet time of year for us.
RIP sweetheart, we will never forget you and you will always be loved xx

As I was doing my morning -medically prescribed, walk through the dog walker’s alleys of the campus, while doing some prayers, I thought of the title of the newest title “RIP Orla”, and decided to respond to the invitation by Chris Marshall to participate, from afar, to his column. The question is, if the pets, and as a mater of fact, if all the beasts, have a soul? No! they have no soul, which means that Orla, truly, has been resting in peace for now fifteen years. This verity must reassure sister Brigitte Bardot who has been a successful militant towards the passage of some legislations for the humane ‘protection des animaux domestiques’.
No, the beasts of the earth having no soul have populated the world for us; with the purpose of to serving us. All beasts have been equipped by our creator adequately to each of its own environment, be it a hostile marsh or a cozy living-room, and have been provided with surviving instincts. All beasts act according to their own programming, and since they have no soul, they remain innocent and know no vice. However there are some legitimate questions which us human may ask, like the behaviors of animals. such as for us, the memorable mark of affection of the late Binious, a French poodle which occur in an unusual incident. Once when we had a visiting friendly dog at home, which was owned by human friends. Binious got worried to be left out, and pressed against my dad as saying , without a ‘word’: hey don’t forget me! When…

… When Binious died, my dad buried it in the yard, which buried site became a place to be left undisturbed, even when we wanted to plant a new olive tree. The tiny stem of the future olive tree was to grow for the next hundred years not where Binious was, but by its side.
The history of the world is full of anecdotes of beasts of all sorts which acted for the good of men, as if under some supernatural influence , and as if is to reminded us of their role towards us. Take the example of Therese Newman who was a farm girl granted with mysticism, and who later was given the gift of visions. As she was attending a herd of cows, a brutal man jumped the fence from no-where and lifted her skirt. From no-where again, a bull charged the aggressor who flee in fear. The unknown bull, which was not among the herd attended, then sat and remained next to the virgin for the rest of the day.
When Therese became a visionary, as a cognoscente farm girl, she saw that she-donkey of St. Joseph, while on their way to Bethlehem at carrying the Blessed Virgin was using unusual extra cautions. The she-donkey used soft steps, and avoided bouncing the young woman ‘sitting in amazone’. The animal instinct led to understand the preciousness of the cargo, or was the animal been influenced from the outside of this world? The mystic then described the ox gently bringing its large nostril near the creche in order to bring warmth on the newborn. Both the ox and the ass…

… Both the ox and the ass had previously made a loud noise of joy -each in its own way, because they had recognized their creator. It is the noise of those two beasts which awoke St. Joseph who had fallen asleep during the Birth of the Savior. I stop typing here, because, in my own clumsy way, I have shown that beasts are dignified to our own attentions, perhaps as does the late house she-cat named Orla.
END.
