(Bay Shore, NY) — On November 6, Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. (ADRC) will be presenting a pre-festival screening of “Alive Inside: The Story of Music and Memory,” hosted by Dan Cohen, ED. The event will take place at Atria Senior Living, located at 117-01 84th Avenue in Kew Gardens from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Mr. Cohen, the group’s executive director, will explain how personalized music on iPods and digital audio systems can replace antipsychotics, anti-depressants, and anti-anxiety medications. He has also brought the program to ADRC’s Alzheimer’s Disease Education Conference and Expo. According to Music and Memory, the group has executed personalized music programs in 140 facilities throughout the U.S. and Canada since 2011.

Music and Memory is a nonprofit organization that improves elders’ quality of life by prompting their memory with personalized digital music technology. Essentially, Mr. Cohen and other members of the organization train nursing staff, elder care professionals and caregivers on how to create musical play lists that trigger memories for those who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and other cognitive and physical challenges.

“We are excited to welcome Dan Cohen and his insightful look into Music and Memory,” says Mary Ann Malack-Ragona, Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. “The program he hosted at our Alzheimer’s Disease Education Conference and Expo had a large turnout and has garnered positive reviews. It will be interesting to hear the story behind the organization.”

The event is being sponsored by Dignity Home Care, Home Instead Senior Care, Gutterman’s Funeral Home and Regal Heights Rehabilitation and Health Center. To register for the event, please visit www.adrcinc.org or contact Mary Ann Malack-Ragona, Executive Director/CEO at (631) 820-8068.
