Use colorful foods in your meal preparation. Eating meals that have multiple colors is very healthy for you, and it looks more appetizing as well. Consider garnishing your dishes with parsely, cilantro, cherry tomatoes or curly bits of carrot. Put your creativity and imagination to work when choosing colorful foods for your meals, and watch how quickly those meals disappear.

Measure cooking oil out. Refrain from unmeasured pours from a bottle, focusing instead on lowering the fat content by awareness. Measuring the oil will let you closely examine how much oil you are using.

Use your own stock for more flavorful food. You can make stock in large quantities if you wish, then store it in bags and put it in the freezer. By doing this, you’ll always have homemade stock available whenever you are in the mood to cook soup. By making your own stock, you can be sure that it is not full of preservatives.

Dark, leafy greens have tons of healthy nutrients, but they can be tedious to prepare. The stems can be hard to remove. To ease this process, simply fold the greens in half and use your hands to break the stem off. You could also cut the stem from the folded leaf using a knife. When you open up the leaf, a neatly de-stemmed green is the result.

To improve your pasta sauce, put aside some of the water used during the cooking of the pasta. Save approximately 1/4 cup of water after cooking your pasta. While mixing the sauce and pasta, add the pasta water into the mix. Amalgamation will take place in your sauce when you add the pasta water. The starch will give it the “creaminess” you desire.

If you are preparing a salad which will not be served until later, exercise good judgment as you layer the ingredients. The juiciest ingredients like tomatoes should go one the bottom, and anything that has a tendency to wilt, such as the leaves themselves, should go on the top.

Rather than using water or milk in a specific recipe, try a different liquid to add a new flavor. As a substitute for water, try broth. Juice can work as well. Some people use the water left over from boiling vegetables. Substitute sour cream, buttermilk or even yogurt in place of regular milk. By using different liquid ingredients in your side dishes, you can increase their flavor and nutritional value.
