Fantasy Football Outlook: New offensive minded Head Coach, upgrades on the offensive line and at tight end are reasons to believe Cutler could have a fantasy relevant season. I really thought Cutler would breakout last year with the additions of Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, but issues in pass protection did help matters.
With Brian Urlacher gone and the defense aging, it’s time for the Bears to win games with offense first and Cutler should be focused for a big season as he’s in a contract year.
Expect Jeffery to take another step in his progression as a possible No.1 receiver in the future, but Cutler is likely nothing more than a QB2 come draft day. For all the passing around the league today, Cutler’s numbers just haven’t been good enough to roster in leagues.

2012 Outlook: Fantasy Projection
It’s hard not to like Jay Cutler’s upside with additions of Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and tight end Evan Rodriguez. As funny as it sounds, Cutler’s fantasy value is stronger without Mike Martz around, and while Mike Tice isn’t a creative offensive guru, Cutler should be relaxed with his old quarterbacks coach (worked together in Denver) Jeremy Bates.
Look for the Bears to incorporate some two tight end sets, as Kellen Davis is primed to make his mark on the league, and Rodriguez will be a valuable Joker piece as time moves on.
Perhaps all these moves, and the lack of re-signing Matt Forte also suggest the Bears are trending towards giving Cutler the keys to the car again and running the offense through the passing game?
With one of the strongest arms in the league, I feel confident in projecting a re-birth in Cutlers fantasy production, as he seems to be a lock for over 4,000 yards passing and close to thirty touchdowns.
Could be wrong, but then again, look at his ADP trends (15th quarterback off the board) and in all likeliness, you won’t have to give up much to snag him. Cutler should have start-worthy value this year, and you can get him as a quality backup, at this point.

2012, Preseason: Cutler Impressive Vs. Redskins
The Bears first team offense was on the field in full against the Redskins and they were terrific. Cutler will still have to deal with offensive line breakdowns but he does a great job of side stepping defenders in the pocket and has enough running ability to extend plays, and even pickup first downs.
Overall I was actually happy with the pass protection against Washington’s solid front seven, that had no problems pressuring Ryan Fitzpatrick last week.
Having time to throw is always important and it’s clear Cutler looks like he did back in Denver (if not better) when he has that time.
Brandon Marshall and Cutler looked as though they never missed a beat after three years apart.
Earl Bennett looks like an impact player from the slot and Alshon Jeffery should push Devin Hester for a starting job after his seven receptions for over 90 yards.
Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
The Bears finally landed a veteran pass catcher with some size, as they nabbed Roy Williams in free agency. Sure, Williams isn’t the ideal No.1 receiver you would hope for, but he does have a chance to be effective as he re-units with this old OC Mike Matrz.
If Culter has any hopes of providing fantasy owners an option for a spot starter in ten to twelve team leagues, it will be essential that he finds chemistry with Williams, and the offensive line drastically improves from the 52 sacks they gave up on Culter last year.
While some fans went crazy about Cutler leaving early in the NFC Championship game last year, he’s actually a tough guy and rarely misses starts. Last season Cutler missed on start, and that was because of concussion problems from begin pounded into the turf by the Giants front line. Look to Cutler as a decent backup for your team, as I anticipate you will see the Bears open up the passing game a little more this season.

June 2011
For all the success the Bears had in 2010, Jay Culter continued to disappoint for fantasy football as he averaged only 218.3 yards passing per game. In fact, Cutler has failed to reach over 230 yards passing per game in his first two seasons with the Bears, leaving one to believe offensive line problems and a poor receiving core are main reasons for his down trending production.
All is not lost for Cutler as I do believe he will return to being a top ten fantasy quarterback in the future but those negative area’s need to change before he’s a fantasy relevant quarterback once again. Over the draft weekend, the Bears did select offensive lineman Gabe Carimi to upgrade the line, but they failed to select a receiver or tight end.
Hopefully, Chicago will give Cutler more help in free agency, because I feel this teams success will rest on the strong arm of Cutler in future years. For now, Cutler is only worth a late backup selection at best in ten team leagues as the Bears will probably continue to run the football, because they have trouble giving Cutler (52 sacks last year) time in the pocket to throw.
2010 Preview
Jay Cutler is off to a good start this season as the Bears are finding ways to win. Cutler will have his down weeks for fantasy but he will also have some big games with Mike Martz as his offensive coordinator. Hopefully the Bears can stay in contention for the playoffs all year as that would help fans and teammates believe in the changes Chicago has made this offseason.
2010 Fantasy Football Outlook
2009 Fantasy Year In Review: For all the struggles Jay Cutler had last season he still managed to throw for over 3,600 yards and had 28 total touchdowns. These numbers are good to keep in mind as he did show he could put up respectable stats in these areas with the players he has around him.
Still, Cutler struggled often last year with a shaky offensive line and no legit receivers to throw the football with. He also threw a ridiculous 26 interceptions, and it looked like his confidence was shot for awhile.

Thankfully, Cutler did have a strong finish and Devin Aromashodu came out of the wood work to become a viable receiving option.
2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: The Bears parted ways with just about all of their coaching staff this offseason and brought in Mike Martz to head the offensive play calling.
Unfortunately, the Bears still have problems on the offensive line and their receivers aren’t great timing and rhythm players. In a Martz offense, you have to run precise routes and get to where you need to be as the football will be on point when you get there.
Failure to do this can cause turners as you leave your quarterback hanging out to dry. This offense had great success in St. Louis when they had a strong offensive line, an accurate Kurt Warner and great route running receivers in Torry Holt and especially Isaac Bruce.
Let’s not forget one of the more dynamic running backs in Marshall Faulk to boot as defense had to pay attention to him as well.
This is not the group of players’ Cutler will have around him and that is a setup for problems to come. Still, Cutler may not have house hold names in the passing game, but they seem to be willing to work hard.
Many of them are rotating in the starting offense this summer, and we will have to find out which once will be the legit starters come August. Cutler will probably throw his share of interceptions this season, but he should get back to at least mid twenty touchdowns and over 3,600 yards passing once again.
