Fantasy Football Outlook: Off Freeman goes in the final year of his rookie contract to prove to his Head Coach and the Buccaneer ownership he’s worth giving a lucrative contract. I think Freeman will have a respectable season and he might even help the Buccaneers to the playoffs but don’t expect him to post the numbers he had a season ago.
With the additions of Darrelle Revis, Johnathan Banks and Dashon Goldson the Buccaneers secondary will be much improved. A part of the reason we saw Freeman throw for over 4,000 yards and 27 touchdowns was because the Buccaneers fell behind in games, because of their horrible pass defense.
This set the table for Freeman to post those numbers, but one area he should have improvement is his interception total as he posted 17 a year ago. Look for that to drop close to 12 this season, as the Buccaneers should play with a lead more often and Freeman won’t have to force as many passes, as he did in games last year.
I like Freeman as a backup quarterback for fantasy leagues, but I would look to those going around him like Sam Bradford, Carson Palmer, Andy Dalton and even Philip Rivers before him. At the end of the day, the Buccaneers want to pound the football in the run game and play shout defense to win, while taking shots down the field to Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams.

Summer of 2012: Fantasy Projections
What looked like a bright future for Josh Freeman took a horrible turn for the worst in 2011, as he looked nothing like the player we saw, the year before. In reality, this was somewhat likely to happen as the Buccaneers are a very young team, especially at key positions on offense.
I’m sure it must have been tempting for players like Freeman, Mike Williams and LeGarrette Blount to relax a little more than they should have been last off-season, with the lockout going on and all coming off good years.
Whatever the reason, none of the players listed above produced close to their expected numbers, and it all starts with the quarterback, to get things on the right direction. Don’t look for a miraculous bounce back season from Freeman, but he probably won’t play like a shlub.
The addition of guard Carl Nicks give the Buccaneers an even stronger offensive line for both the run and pass, so hopefully Doug Martin, Blount and Michael Smith can force defenses to pay more attention to the running game, in preparation for Sunday matchups.
It’s likely the Buccaneers will use a base formation with two running backs in the backfield, which should tempt defenses to react by loading an eighth man in the box. Doing so would help set up the vertical passing game and with Vincent Jackson on board; Freeman should have some explosive opportunities down field.
Consider Freeman a worthy draft selection in the later rounds on draft day.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
Only time will tell us what kind of a quarterback Josh Freeman will be for fantasy purposes, but it’s looking clear that this kid has what it takes to make the Buccaneers a winning team. Freeman was impressive in his first full season as a start with 25 touchdowns and only six interceptions.
Factor in that Freeman did all this with two rookie receivers and a rookie running back for most of the season, and it’s hard for me to quantify how amazing his year really was. This will be a big year for the youngster as division rivals will start taking this team much more serious after their successful 2010 season.
I expect Freeman’s interception total to climb as he still has a learn curve to go through but if Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn continue to mature, this could be a dangerous offense in the coming years. Coming into 2011 fantasy drafts, Freeman should be viewed as a late round backup as the Buccaneers will probably call a run first offense once again.

2010 Preview
Josh Freeman got his opportunity to start as a rookie in the middle of the year. Surprisingly, the young quarterback didn’t play that bad, and it looks like the Bucs have themselves a good qb for years to come.
2010 Fantasy Football Outlook
2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Josh Freeman surprised the heck out of me in his first start as he led the Buccaneers to a victory over the Packers. From that point on Freeman had his ups and downs, but he finished the season with a week sixteen upset against the New Orleans Saints.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: Unfortunately, for Freeman the team didn’t retain his top receiver Antonio Bryant this offseason. This left Freeman with only one true solid option in the passing game and that is Kellen Winslow. In the draft Tampa Bay picked up a couple talented young receivers in Arrelious Benn and Mike Williams.
Both have a very good chance to start as the Buccaneers don’t have any other start worthy receivers on the roster. This makes Freeman an obvious quarterback you should stay away from this season, but I would keep my eye on this young group. The Buccaneers have the easiest schedule to pass against in the NFL and that should only help Freeman’s chances for success.
