Fantasy Football Outlook: Despite coming off knee surgery Griffin is still going as a top ten quarterback according to recent ADP trends. Truth be told Griffin is part of a cluster of quarterbacks who makes me feel good about dropping out of the first 5 or 6 rounds of redraft mocks to take a quarterback this year.
Griffin won’t run for over 800 yards this season and he may never do it again because of his injury concerns and I believe he will understand that it is better for his career and his team to continue to stay in the pocket more often.
That doesn’t mean we won’t see him run for over 500 a year, if anything just because when he does decide to take off, he can go a long way before anyone gets close. This season, it’s best to hold his expectations in the run game to around 300 to 350 yards because he is coming back from the knee surgery, and might even miss a few games early.
Something tells me we will see Griffin on the field week one and he will play a healthy 16 games this season. If Pierre Garcon and Fred Davis come back and play most of the season, Griffin will have something he didn’t have most of last year, his two top targets.
The way players are coming back from Achilles injuries, I have no doubt Davis will be fine, but Garcon could be a different story as foot injuries can linger. Still Griffin proved to us last year he could play at a top five level at his position without those targets and still make big plays in the passing game.
You won’t find Griffin outside the first three rounds of fantasy drafts too often over the next five to ten years so take advantage of picking him up coming off the injury rebound around the 6th or 7th round of your draft.

2012 Fantasy Football Projection
The love for Robert Griffin III seems to be warranted, coming off a Hiesman winning season. While I love the fit from a player, coaching staff perspective, I don’t love his receivers.
Pierre Garcon seems to be a good fit with Griffin’s strong arm, but he struggled with consistency in Indianapolis and now a No.1 receiver, it will be interesting to see how he does.
The underrated receiver in Washington is Santana Moss. An old veteran but he knows how to get open and I could see both Moss and tight end Fred Davis being Griffin’s top targets.
Even Chris Cooley might bounce back with helpful snaps, if he stays on the team and don’t forget about former 49ers receiver Josh Morgan.
While Griffin will likely have a harder time with presnap pickups than Andrew Luck, he has shown an ability to stand in the pocket and deliver the football on tape.
Where Griffin has it up on Luck is his speed and his ability (Luck is good but not great) to burn defenses with this running ability. We’ve seen how this element can be a big factor in terms of fantasy success with players like Cam Newton, Michael Vick, Joe Webb and Tim Tebow in the past.
While Griffin may not have as good a receiving corps as Luck, it’s likely he will have a better rookie year for fantasy purposes. Going as the 12th quarterback off the board in recent ADP trends, I have no problem with you targeting Griffin as a late starter (12 team leagues) or an early backup.
For Dynasty purposes, he should be the second or third off the list (Trent Richardson and Luck) as we should be a little concerned about Griffin’s long-term health, over Luck.
