Fantasy Football Outlook: I wasn’t a believer in Jackson posting the same numbers we saw back in San Diego last summer and boy was I wrong. First I didn’t think Josh Freeman had it in him to throw for over 4,000 yards but with good pass protection, a reliable running game and a horrible pass defense, the structure was there for Jackson to have a WR1 season.
We shouldn’t expect the Buccaneers to throw the football as much this season and the main reason begin the major upgrades to the teams secondary. Tampa Bay was one of the top defense against the run and part of that was because Coach Schiano would sacrifice protection on the back end to bring help up for run support.
Now, they have an opportunity to play an aggressive run defense but still play respectable against the pass and that should allow them to play closer games and rely on the running game.
Jackson will still be a good fantasy receiver but I think he will fall back to more of a WR2 in standard and PPR leagues. Perhaps in big-play performance leagues we will see Jackson maintain WR1 status because he can strike from anywhere on the field and Freeman is capable of getting him the football.

Summer of 2012: Fantasy Projections
While I like the Vincent Jackson signing in terms of what he brings to the offense, I’m not enthused about his chances to be a regular starter in fantasy leagues.
The Buccaneers will be a heavy run first team, which can be a benefit to Jackson because as teams load eight in the box, corners tend to play off coverage, giving Jackson the space he needs to build up speed. Against high-scoring offenses, Tampa Bay will likely be forced to play from way behind, and that means garbage time stats.
While those factors can work out for Jackson, quarterback Josh Freeman has much to prove coming off a horrible season. Furthermore, Jackson isn’t the smoothest route runner as he’s mostly a vertical receiver, so maybe Mike Williams and Kellen Winslow will benefit the most from garbage time.
Look to Jackson as nothing more than a WR3 this year, because even when he’s at his best, he’s still a boom / bust player weekly, depended on the big play to provide expected production.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections
If Vincent Jackson didn’t have his contract situation spill over to the regular season, I would have had him as one of the top seven receivers to take in standard leagues and a top twelve for PPR leagues. Jackson is clearly a big time play-maker and playing with Philip Riversdoesn’t hurt his fantasy stock as well.Because Jackson missed so much time with his contract problems, he’s going at a lower value than his talent suggest he should go. Coming into the summer, Jackson’s ADP value on Mock Draft Central lists him as the 17th receiver (43.83 overall) to take in PPR leagues and the 17th best receiver in standard redraft leagues. Again, I like Jackson’s value better in standard or big play leagues as he probably won’t catch over 75 receptions in a season, and that hurts his value for PPR scoring.
While Jackson can be had as a No.2 receiver for your team his production will be at a No.1 level as he will play this season under a franchise tag and is looking for a big contract after this season.

2010 Preview
Vincent Jackson took another step to becoming one of the top wide receivers in fantasy football. Now that LT is gone, the Chargers will probably lean on Jackson more often in the red zone for touchdowns.

2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Vincent Jackson took the final step to becoming a top ten fantasy receiver last year with another productive campaign. For the year Jackson totaled just under 1,200 yards receiver, and he snagged nine touchdown catches from quarterback Philip Rivers.
With great physical tools and a continuing understanding of his position, Jackson has proven to be a player fantasy owners can count on for good play.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: Jackson has one of the best quarterbacks and is in an explosive offense with the Chargers. This group is primed to have another great year as they actually face a better passing schedule this season. Last year they had one of the hardest schedules to pass against (coming into the year), and it didn’t seem to phase Rivers or Jackson.
Expect this connection to post another fine season as they should walk away with the AFC Western Title once again.
