2013 10-Team Mock Draft Results: 2nd Round

I find it interesting that Stevan Ridley went off the board just behind Alfred Morris in the second round of this 10-team mock draft for standard scoring leagues. While I like Morris as a low-end first-round pick, Ridley is likely to post similar numbers to Morris.

Both running backs may see an expended role in the passing game (Morris only 11 receptions last year and Ridley just six receptions), but they will never be used the same way we see Ray Rice, LeSean McCoy or Reggie Bush as a receiving threat.

Instead, both young runners rely on tough running, inside the tackles with the ability to score around the end zone, to post there production for fantasy owners.

11. Alfred Morris, WAS - The Redskins talented young running back may not reach 1,600 yards again this season, but he will run for over 1,300 yards and score at leagues 12 touchdowns in a high-scoring offense.

12. Stevan Ridley, NE - As a Ridley owner in many leagues last season, I was disappointed at his role towards the end of the season and he left touchdown opportunities to other running backs because he failed to punch the ball in at times. A top 15 back in all scoring formats, but look to Trent Richardson and Matt Forte before Ridley on draft day.

13. Trent Richardson, CLE - I feel fantasy owners are being a little hard-on Richardson for his nagging injuries. Richardson proved he could get it done while playing through injury last season, and is recovered from his leg injury in OTAs.

A top ten running back, Richardson would make for a terrific value in the early portion of the second round of ten team leagues.

14. Matt Forte, CHI - Marc Trestman will use Forte with regularity and it will be interesting to see if he allows his star running back to stay on the field when the team gets around the goal-line. Forte is capable of scoring in the red zone and he creates more problems for the defense (ability to get to the edge and a threat in the passing game), opening up more for Jay Cutler and his receivers in that area of the field.

15. A.J. Green, CIN - The Bengals star receiver gave us a scare when he went down with a knee injury at the start of training camp. It appears it was just a bruise and we should consider him a full go for the start of the regular season.

Keep an eye on Green, but I’m sure we will hear from the media and talk radio shows all over if he’s struggling to get back on the field by the end of August.

16. Jimmy Graham, NO - This would be a terrific spot to select Graham but I wouldn’t flirt with him as a early second round pick, with the running back talent you can pickup at that point.

17. Dez Bryant, DAL - It’s hard not to go with Bryant over A.J. Green because of his injury history and his attitude problems in the past. That said, Bryant proved he could play through injury at a high level last season, and has kept his nose out of trouble this offseason.

In short, he’s the No.2 receiver in fantasy leagues and is worthy of an early second round selection. The Cowboys will be in a bunch of back and forth high-scoring games and will be fighting for a playoff spot deep into the season.

18. Brandon Marshall, CHI - While Alshon Jeffery, Martellus Bennett and Matt Forte will be active in the Bears offense, Marshall is still the top target of Jay Cutler. Cutler and Marshall have terrific chemistry on the field going back to their days in Denver and we should expect Chicago’s No.1 receiver to perform as a top five option at his position once again.

19. Maurice Jones-Drew, JAX - Don’t like this pick in the second round and I won’t recommend him as an option in the third round. Going with my gut here, but I don’t believe Jones-Drew will ever be the player we remember in his prime and we shouldn’t expect him to hold up for a full season.

20. Chris Johnson, TEN - Not a fan of Johnson as a second-round pick but the upgrades on the offensive line give this once elite running back a chance to produce consistent RB2 production.

A big play running back, Johnson just isn’t built to be a 300 plus carry back and hopefully additions of key offensive lineman and Shonn Greene will help Johnson stay fresh for explosive plays.
