2013 ADP Trends: Top Overall 150 Players
Photo By: Andrew Weber / US PRESSWIRE
Taking a look at Fantasy Football Calculator’s recent top 150 list for standard leagues for ten team leagues, we have 19 quarterbacks, 51 running backs, 53 wide receivers, 17 tight ends, 2 kickers and 8 team defenses in all.
What I find interesting is that coming off an NFL draft where no running backs were selected in the first round we have a throw back year in fantasy drafts trends in numbers as 16 running backs off the board in the top 25 overall players.
With the league tilting the rules to favor the passing game, it’s not surprise that the quarterback position continues to improve in terms of depth and perhaps we are finally at a tipping point where it is common knowledge by most fantasy owners that you can drop down at the quarterback position and still find a serviceable option.
The first signal caller on the list below is Aaron Rodgers as the 21st selection, placing him as the first pick in the third round of standard 10-team league mock drafts. Drew Brees logs in as the 26th overall selection but after that only other quarterback is listed (Peyton Manning 36) in the top 45 players.
Because of all the passing in the league, wide receiver depth is respectable as well and one approach I’ve seen by some fantasy owners is to wait until the 4th or 5th round before targeting receivers, opting to load up in the run game, and possibly adding one of the elite quarterbacks or tight end Jimmy Graham early on.
Not a bad strategy, but in early mock drafts I’ve had a hard time laying off receivers like A.J. Green or Calvin Johnson, should they fall to me in the mid-late area of the second round.
While the depth of starters at the running back positions is respectable this year, because of teams using two running backs more often around the league, we have a deep crop of hand-cuff and upside depth options on fantasy rosters as well.
Look to Giovani Bernard, Ronnie Hillman, Andre Brown, Bryce Brown, Shane Vereen, Johnathan Franklin, Danny Woodhead, Vick Ballard, Ben Tate, and any one of the three young runners in St. Louis.
In short, we have options at every position in 2013 so us your prep time wisely to decide which players you believe in an where you need to land them to give yourself the best possible team on draft day. In ten-team leagues, everyone should be walking away with respectable teams unless they didn’t walk into the draft prepared.
