2013 Sleepers Tight Ends (TE) – Fantasy Football Undervalued Draft Picks

Dwayne Allen - Some may look to Coby Fleener as the first option at tight end in Indianapolis, but that would be a bad idea. Allen was the more productive rookie in 2012, and Fleener has struggled this preseason. I like Allen as a starter to begin the season and he should be a Pro Bowl player in time.

Jordan Cameron – A blistering hot start to the preseason has Cameron emerging as a possible low-end TE1 option in ten team leagues. The Browns have groomed Cameron over the past two seasons as he was a raw product coming out of USC as a basketball player.

Like other basketball players who converted over to tight end (Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, Jimmy Graham) Cameron has the talent to be a terrific player.

Jared Cook – Expect Cook to be an active part of the Rams offense as the Rams will be a pass-first offense. Cook has a chance to be a weekly starter at his position and he should be viewed as a starting option.

Fred Davis – Coming off of an Achilles injury that cost him most of last season, Davis is back and he will be one of the top targets in the Redskins offense. Davis is one of a cluster of tight ends with the upside to be an every week starter.

Quarterback Robert Griffin has the ability to make those around him better and I expect Davis to emerge as a low-end starter by October. It may take the first month of the season before he becomes a weekly starting option because Griffin is coming off of a knee injury of his own.

Tyler Eifert - It may take Eifert until his sophomore season to deliver on his lofty expectations, mainly because Jermain Gresham figures to play as the inline option. Eifert will be a move tight end, but he will be active in the Bengals offense.

Don’t draft Eifert but keep an eye on his production as the season goes along. He could be a breakout option in the second half of the season.

Julius Thomas - Finally healthy Thomas is showing what kind of talent he is and his strong showing with the first team against the Seahawks was no joke. Thomas can be an important part of the Broncos passing attack, but he’s probably only a matchup play option to begin the season.

Consider Thomas unlikely to be drafted in most leagues, Thomas is likely to be a hot option off the waiver wire at some point.

Zach Sudfeld – With key losses at the tight end position, Sudfeld is making the most of his opportunity in New England. Sudfeld was benched in the teams third preseason game for fumbling the football (so was Shane Vereen and Brandon Bolden) but he did come back in the game, late.

Sudfeld will be an interesting option to keep an eye on, but we shouldn’t look to him as a draftable option.

Rob Housler – Another tight end to watch closely in September, Housler has the ability to make an impact in fantasy lineups. Coach Bruce Arians will use an aggressive passing attack with Carson Palmer running the offense.
