The Freaks Sleepers 2013 Week 2

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Looking for an under the radar player to help right your fantasy ship? We’ve got you covered. Here is our selection of sleepers for Week 2.

Andy Dalton CIN QB
The Bengals signal caller didn’t have much success against the Steelers in 2012. In a pair of games, he threw for a total of 383 yards, 1 TD, and 3 INTs. That’s less than 10 fantasy points per game. Well that was last year and things are looking up for Dalton on Monday night. The Steelers defense looked unimpressive in their loss to the Titans and this week they’ll be on the road. More importantly, the passing weapons look better. A.J. Green looks another year older and better. The Bengals are also getting a boost out of the TE position. Tyler Eifert looks as good as advertised and his presence is pushing Jermaine Gresham to step up his game.

Terrelle Pryor OAK QB
Pryor has 2 NFL starts and he managed to score more than 20 fantasy points in both of them. In each contest, at least 10 of his points came from running the ball. That’s the beauty of a running QB. They minimize the risk of a poor passing performance with their legs. Now, the Jaguars are coming to Oakland for what will be Pryor’s first home start. Jacksonville features a below average pass defense and Pryor has the skills to power the Raiders to a win.

Eddie Lacy GB RB
The Packers RB didn’t have incredible stats in week 1. On 14 carries, he ran for 41 yards, but we weren’t anticipating much against the 49ers. He also threw in a few extra points with a 31 yard catch and run. Our expectations are going up considerably for his home debut at Lambeau against the Redskins. Washington was just bowled over by LeSean McCoy who exposed room to run. Lacy may not match McCoy’s totals (189 total yards and a TD), but we like him for at least 80 yards and a trip to the end zone.

Ben Tate HOU RB
Tate has had plenty of success running in place of Arian Foster when the Texans have needed him. Now, the situation is a bit different with coach Gary Kubiak indicating a desire to split the carries evenly between the two backs. This is a week to take advantage of that situation. The Titans are headed to Houston and bringing a sketchy run defense with them. In fact, they were the 29th worst at stopping the run in 2012, allowing an average of 114 yards and .88 TDs.

Rueben Randle NYG WR
He won’t be a sleeper for much longer if the opener was a true indicator of his progress. He was impressive against Dallas with 5 catches for 101 yards and that’s despite Cruz and Nicks in the lineup. Week 2 sees Peyton Manning and the Broncos coming into New York and that has us expecting a shootout and another solid effort from Randle.

Julian Edelman NE WR
Edelman started the year strong with 7 catches for 79 yards and 2 TDs. You wouldn’t normally expect it, but he’s in a position for similar success against the Jets. Danny Amendola isn’t expected to play which means more targets for the other receivers.

Kellen Winslow NYJ TE
We’re still getting used to Kellen Winslow as the Jets TE instead of Dustin Keller, but so far we like what we’re seeing. Winslow made a splash in his debut with 7 grabs, 79 yards and a TD. We like him to put up similar numbers against the Patriots. Going back to Keller, the former Jets TE collected 157 yards and 2 TDs against New England in 2 games last season.
