Backdoor Cover: Week 7 NFL Picks

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Welcome to the seventh week of the NFL season!

Last week: 5-3 ATS

Despite having yet another winning week, I really wish I had been on the Jaguars last week against Denver. If nothing else, so I could say years from now that I backed the biggest dog in the history of the NFL.

I’m traveling in a state and city that knows absolutely nothing about how to make salsa this week — New York City?!? — so the Backdoor Cover will be a shorter version. I’m positive Brooks from The Shawshank Redemption was talking about NYC when he said “the world went and got itself into a big damn hurry.” No really, I’ve been honked at probably 20 times. I’m sorry I respect my rental car New Yorkers and refuse to gun it as soon as the light turns green.

Hopefully this traveling doesn’t mess with my mojo picking games lately. My record for the entire season is 28-22-1. If you throw out my bad week one – then my record is 25-15-1.

On to the games!

NFL

SEATTLE -6 vs. Cardinals – I’m not going to overthink this one. The Seahawks are the much better team and while I don’t like short week road favorites, I’ll bite at less than a touchdown.

CAROLINA -6.5 vs. Rams – Yea, we won a nice victory last week with the Panthers but this is more about using the inflated St. Louis line value against them. The Rams beat Jax and the rudderless Texans to give us this line. Cam Newton continues to roll. LIKE I CALLED LAST WEEK.

NEW YORK JETS +4 vs. Patriots – They take their sports radio pretty seriously up in these parts of New York. I think the Patriots will get the best effort of the Jets and then some. I’ll take a chance on a close game while they are at home.

CINCINNATI +2.5 vs. Lions – I don’t need much of a reason to take Cincinnati these days and getting points vs. the overhyped Lions counts. Get the ball to Gio Bengals and everything will be okay in the world.

EAGLES -2.5 vs. Cowboys – Think it’s time for the Cowboys to drop one that they probably shouldn’t lose. This seems as good of a time as any to cash in on that opportunity.

PITTSBURGH -2.5 vs. Ravens – Think the Steelers capitalizes on their momentum from last week and tries to salvage their season against a divisional opponent. The offensive line worries me but hopefully Ben can make some things happen against that secondary.

SAN FRANCISCO -4 vs. Titans – I just think the Titans are overrated with a capital O. They covered against the Seahawks last week despite getting completely outgained by almost a 4 to 1 margin at the end of the third quarter. I’m rolling with the better team.

JACKSONVILLE +9.5 vs. Chargers – Despite missing the Jaguars boat last week, this is still too many points for a team that has quietly gotten a little offense going with Henne and Blackmon.

MINNESOTA +3.5 vs. Giants – Not sure where the Giants love is coming from and this is a super risky pick. Trusting a new Josh Freeman led offense is tough to do, but I’m definitely not taking the Giants as favorites. I hate to put my stellar MNF record on the line for this crummy game.
