Fantasy Football Start ’em Sit ’em Week 3

Finally we saw the offenses get going across the league in week 2! Especially, my start of the week for Week 2 in Nico Collins! Collins had a monster day posting 7 catches on 9 targets for 146 yards and 1 touchdown which equates to 27.6 points in PPR and was the WR5 on the week. Not bad for a guy that was out of the consensus top 40 wide receivers and I hope many of you were able to start him!

Unfortunately, somehow, Arthur Smith decided to use Drake London the week when he’s paired up with lockdown corner Jaire Alexander. London was my sit of the week and admittedly had a nice game; 6 catches on 7 targets for 67 yards and a Td. I’m really starting to hate this Aruther Smith guy man. Guy says he doesn’t care about our fantasy teams and goes from having London get 0 targets week 1 to 7 the following week against a lockdown corner. That’s just how it goes sometimes as we head into week 3!

Week 3 Start ’em Zay Flowers – Ravens WR

I could easily have put Lamar Jackson here as he lit the Colts up pretty bad the last time he played them but decided to go with Zay here. Zay may not have had the statline many had hoped for last week as Mark Andrews did return, however, he did show his big play ability with a 52 yard reception. It’s worth noting Odell Beckham started the week out with a DNP on Wednesday as he’s battling an ankle injury, I’m projecting that he misses this game or is a decoy if he does end up playing. Zay has managed to hit over 75% of snaps in both games so far to start his career and that should only go up if Odell misses this game or is hampered.

As for the matchup, the Colts give up the second most points to opposing WR’s, translation; this is a swiss cheese defense that Lamar should have no problem carving up as he has in the past. Lamar looked great last week against the Bengals and it is clear he trusts his young stud rookie WR as he’s already earned 15 targets over his first two games. It’s nice to see Lamar look much more comfortable dropping back in the pocket and delivering with confidence under new OC Todd Monkens’s pass-friendly offense. I’m firing Zay up as a high-end WR3 this week with WR2 upside. I think Zay will find pay dirt for the first time in his young promising career.

Joe Burrow - Sit em Week 3

Week 3 Sit ’em Joe Burrow – Bengals QB

At the start I did not think I’d be putting a player of Joe Burrow’s magnitude as the featured sit but here we are. Some may find this a little obvious and some may think I’m crazy for this take but regardless I think it’s warranted. Burrow appeared to tweak his calf that was giving him issues and caused him to miss multiple weeks in the preseason. Re-aggravating an injury is never a good thing and while a calf may not seem like the most vital thing for a QB, he certainly needs his legs and I believe his calf not being 100 % combined with not getting many reps in training camp has contributed to his horrendous start. And yes he has been horrendous, he is not in the top 30 QBs for fantasy currently, (31st or 32nd depending on your setting).

Burrow is apparently feeling much better today but I’m really not fully buying it. We hoped Burrow would be near full health at this point but that is clearly not the case. Grade 1 calf strains often take 3-5 weeks to fully recover from so I’m very skeptical. He is at risk for not only missing this game but also not being able to move in the pocket like he’s accustomed to, a very underrated part of his game. There is also a real chance that he could start the game and be forced to leave due to further injuring it. All of this is just too much risk for me in a bad matchup against the Rams who have quietly been top 7 against QB’s this year in fantasy. I know people are going to want to start him because of the name but I urge people to sit him if they have a quality backup option available to them. It’s also worth noting that Burrow plays on Monday Night, so if he is a game time decision options will be severely limited to someone like a Baker Mayfield or Matt Stafford best case. I hope fantasy managers and the Bengals are both smart with Burrow this week.
