Fantasy Football Start ’em Sit ’em Week 8

Much better bounce-back after the dreadful Logan Thomas performance in week 6. The featured start of the week, Rashee Rice, I had a really nice game for the Chiefs and your fantasy teams. Rice totaled 60 yards and caught 5 of his 6 targets for a touchdown (17 points) which was extremely close to the prediction I had given. Nonetheless, 17 points from a WR3/ flex is a really good showing from Rice and he looks to continue to be Mahomes favorite WR going forward.

The sit of the week, Najee Harris, didn’t go quite as well as Najee finally found pay dirt. Harris had 14 rushes for 53 yards, 3 receptions for 15 yards and a rushing touchdown (15.8 points). What this really comes down to for Harris was finding the end zone as he would not have been in double digits without it. Still don’t see a ton changing for Harris here outlooks wise, although he did outcarry Jaylen Warren 14 to 6 and thankfully because he was able to find the end zone you may be able to get a little more for him. Here’s to a big week 8!!

Week 8 Start ’em Christian Kirk – Jaguars WR

So once again, Christian Kirk was severely underdrafted and this time it was in large part due to the acquisition of Calvin Ridley. Many will not want to hear this or accept this but Christian Kirk is the de facto WR1 for the Jaguars. Kirk has been the model of consistency for fantasy and the Jaguars team this year. After week 1, in which Kirk only had 1 catch on 3 targets he has cleared 13.9 points or higher in every week. He is Lawrence’s security blanket and the two have a very close bond both on and off the field.

Kirk has a really nice matchup this week as well against the Pittsburgh Steelers who give up the third most points to opposing wide receivers. The Steelers also give up the ninth most points to slot WR’s, where Kirk often lines up for the Jaguars. Calvin Ridley continues to be up and down and a volatile performer. I do think Ridley will have a good game as well but Kirk is both the safer and better player at this point. It’s possible by the end of this year it evens out but until then Kirk is a weekly set it and forget it WR2. Kirk still doesn’t have the best name value compared to other WR’s with his production so depending on the owner you may be able to acquire him without giving up a king’s ransom. I like Kirk this week as a top 12 play at the position.

Christian Kirk Week 8 Projection: 8 catches on 10 targets for 103 yards and a touchdown (24.3 points)

Josh Jacobs - Sit em Week 8

Week 8 Sit ’em Josh Jacobs – Raiders RB

If you drafted Josh Jacobs this year, congratulations you played yourself. You drank the kool aid and drafted a RB off a 394 touch year which is a cardinal sin when it comes to drafting RBs for fantasy. To be fair, Jacobs is the RB11 of the year, but in a year where so many star running backs have gotten hurt and he has been healthy it’s certainly not what you had hoped for. In regards to this week specifically though, I really think this is an awful matchup for Jacobs. For starters the Lions are 8 point underdogs which means that Vegas is predicting the Raiders to be playing from behind fro most of the game which means a poor game script to run the ball.

Jacobs has evolved into a reliable pass catcher over the past couple years so he should be able to have a somewhat acceptable floor because of it. I just don’t see much upside here especially when the Lions have become one of the strongest run defenses in the league and allow the third fewest points to opposing RB’s. The kicker for me though is what happened to the Lions last week. The Lions were absolutely embarrassed by the Ravens last week and should come out swinging. It’s not like a Dan Campbell led team to be out manned like they were last week and I don’t expect that to be the case in back to back weeks. Say what you want about Cambell but he gets his team to play hard and inspirational football. The Lions will be coming for heads- sit Jacobs in this one.

Josh Jacobs Week 8 Projection: 12 carries for 31 yards, 3 receptions on 4 targets for 23 yards, 0 touchdowns (8.4 points)
