$100,000 Income No Big Deal Anymore

That’s right the bench mark every ones been trying to hit since the 1980′s has become chump change.  About 20 percent of Americans are making the six figure bench mark. those people who use to dream of making this kind of cash have found that it just doesn’t buy what it use to.  This means one out of every five house holds is making over 100,000 dollars a year, but with the average house hold income being 50,000 a year many people still look to this six figure milestone.  In the nineties this kind of income meant two nice cars, a house, and plenty of left over money for saving, but with the current rate of inflation and higher taxes, that come along with making this kind of money, many who make six figures find themselves living about the same as those who are making the national average.  You’d have to make 173,000 in 2011 in order to have the buying power of 100,000 dollars in 1990.

This is a great example of how taxes and inflation are the real cause of the middle class being eroded.  While many people believe it’s big business this is a misconception that has been construed by those who are causing the problem.  It’s not just the middle class that suffers under higher taxes and inflation. It’s the business as well.  Don’t get me wrong I understand there are some rotten businesses out there who pray on the poor and use shady methods to squeeze money out of customers and employees, but these businesses are generally in bed with the very government that is squeezing the middle class out of existence.

It’s important we get inflation in check, stop demonizing business for not paying enough, and start demonizing the government who is taking the money we do earn.
