Suzuki Swift clocks 5 million Global Sales

The worldwide sales of Suzuki Swift have reached 5 million units, says Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan. Interestingly, India accounts for 54 per cent in the overall numbers with 2.7 million units of the Swift and Swift Dzire sold to date. Launched as a global model in November 2004, the Swift took 11 years and 5 months to reach this milestone.

The Swift is produced in several countries across the globe including Japan, India, Hungary, China, Pakistan and Thailand. The company sells the car in Europe as well.

Talking about India, the Maruti Suzuki Swift is the only car brand to have won the Car of the Year awards twice. It received the prestigious award in 2005 when it was first launched, and then in 2011 when the new model was introduced. A sub-4 metre sedan based on the same platform, the Maruti Swift Dzire, was launched in 2008 which too has been the segment leader since its launch.

Things that really worked in favour of the Swift is its universally acceptable design, high frugal powertrains and constant updates it kept receiving over time. In the last update, the Swift saw a 10 per cent increase in its fuel efficiency. The Swift diesel is now claimed to return 25.2kmpl, which makes it the most fuel-efficient car in its category.
