Regenxbio wins hand of Dimension Therapeutics to boost its liver disease pipeline

Regenxbio Inc (NASDAQ:RGNX) is to acquire Dimension Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:DMTX) in an all-stock deal that values Dimension shares at around US$3.41 each.

Dimension’s stock shot up US$1.825 to US$3.025 as its board agreed to support Regenxbio’s bid.

The acquisition will see Regenxbio add two new drug development candidates to its pipeline: DTX301, for the treatment of ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency; and DTX401 for the treatment of glycogen storage disease type Ia.

“REGENXBIO has the resources and expertise to be successful in advancing a portfolio of gene therapies for inherited metabolic diseases targeting the liver,” said Kenneth Mills, president and chief executive officer of Regenxbio.

“The acquisition of Dimension is another meaningful step in building a robust clinical pipeline of gene therapy product candidates with the goal of improving treatment options for patients and families in many diseases,” he added.

Shares in Regenxbio eased 2% to US$21.27.
