The Simple Art of Eating Well {Cookbook Review}
Believe it or not, I used to subscribe to Eating Well magazine back before I cooked regularly. The exotic ingredients and dishes were fun to read about, but seemed way beyond my capabilities (besides, half the time I had no idea what they were talking about!) So it was kind of funny when I re-subscribed years later, only to discover that what once seemed exotic was now fresh and something I would actually cook. Funny how that happens. But I digress.
From the test kitchen of the magazine comes The Simple Art of Eating Well Cookbook: 400 Easy Recipes, Tips and Techniques for Delicious, Healthy Meals. It is quickly becoming my go-to cookbook.
The recipes are organized in traditional cookbook fashion (soups, salads, vegetables, etc.) and the index is very good. The photos are beautiful and many of the recipes have a quick cooking time or they at least explain how to make some of it ahead of time. I love a cookbook that understands that many people have to throw something together after work!
They also do a good job of explaining techniques and variations, so even if you’re not an experienced cook you should be able to figure out things pretty well. Oh, it includes nutrition info too!
So far from this book I’ve made Inside-Out Lasagna, Pasta Salad Niçoise, Black Olive & Herb Yeast Loaves and Cardamom-Crumb Coffee Cake. All have turned out well.
I received a complimentary review copy of this book; all opinions are my own.
A Note About Affiliate Links . . .
I’ve been conflicted about linking to Amazon.com in my book reviews. Often it does provide more information about the book and additional reviews; yet I really want to encourage people to visit their local bookstores. I make a very small amount from Amazon affiliate links, which helps feed my book addiction. After going back and forth, I decided to start linking to Indie Bound. It’s still an affiliate link (which means if you buy it from them I still get a very small commission), however I am assuming that sales will decrease. I’ve decided that losing a few extra dollars is worth promoting the value of shopping locally. I’m way too lazy to go back and change all the links from the past, but in the future if you find yourself clicking through to the Indie Bound site when you’ve been used to clicking to Amazon, that’s why.
