We have a unique situation here in my home. My teenager, Kyle, goes to the public high school here in our town. My daughter, Sophie, is homeschooled. Xander, my 4 year old, will more than likely be homeschooled next year, also.

Each child is different, and they all have individual needs. While my oldest thrives in a public school environment, the little ones may not. Sophie is leaps and bounds beyond a typical Kindergartener, and she would be horribly bored in a classroom. She’s doing incredibly well with a homeschool curriculum, since she’s able to work ahead and at her own pace. She’s already tackling plenty of first grade material!

It offers a rather small internal storage capacity of 32GB, but this is no biggie thanks to the whopping 1TB of included Acer Cloud Storage! Yes, I said cloud! What makes this super-cool is the fact that since all of your important things can be stored in the Acer Cloud, your speed and performance won’t be bogged down. Pretty neat, right?

We were immediately pretty impressed by this little gem. It’s sleek, modern, and incredibly lightweight at only about 3.5lbs. This is a huge plus, considering my kids will be using it the most. They don’t need to lug around anything heavy or cumbersome. 

Setting up the Cloudbook was very simple and straightforward. This laptop runs on Windows 10, which seems SO MUCH BETTER THAN WINDOWS 8. There. I said it. I am not a fan of Windows 8, but 10 seems like a huge improvement, since it’s very easy to navigate. 

We really love the fact that we can enjoy premium features like Cortana with voice, Office 365 Personal, and the generous 1 TB OneDrive. This laptop also boasts an Intel Celeron N3050 Processor, Intel HD Graphics, and up to 3x faster wireless speeds. 

Once we had our accounts and virus protection set up, we downloaded the Acer Cloud apps. ​This allows you to sync your Cloudbook with your phone, tablet, and other devices. You can store photos, movies, files, and documents securely in the Acer Cloud. It’s simple to set up, and easy to manage. 

Now let’s talk speed and performance. 

For basic things like web browsing, e-mail, and social media, this laptop ROCKS. The speed is definitely decent, and load times aren’t too shabby. I did notice that if I try and multi-task and have several windows open, things slow down quite a bit. This is to be expected with a machine with these specifications. I don’t expect it to have the power of my MUCH more expensive Mac. For what it is, the Cloudbook does quite well. 

The sound is nice and crisp, which was a nice surprise. I love streaming music while I surf the net, and the Cloudbook did not disappoint. 

The graphics and camera are both decent, but they could be a bit better. Again, this is a budget-friendly laptop, so it’s not going to come with the best hardware on the market. So if you’re looking for something with super-crisp, HD graphics, this isn’t the laptop for you. If you;’re a more casual user who enjoys watching video and looking at cat pictures online, I’m sure that the graphics will be more than adequate. So while these aren’t the best, they’re not the worst I’ve seen, either. 

The battery life is also very impressive. We typically see about 12 hours of use before we need to charge the battery. That is actually significantly longer than I see with my MacBook Pro! 

There are things I wish this included, like a touchscreen or maybe a wee bit more RAM, but keeping in mind the price point, I wouldn’t expect these features to be included. This is really more of a basic laptop. It gets the job done at decent speed, and it’s user-friendly.

​The large amount of Cloud storage is really the selling point here, in my humble opinion. A whole TB, stored securely in the Acer Cloud rather than bogging down the computer? Sign me up! 

Overall, we’re definitely impressed with the Acer Aspire One Cloudbook. It is wonderful quality for the price, and will definitely be put to good use in my home.  It is a basic laptop more suited to kids or the casual internet user. I wouldn’t use it as my primary blogging or gaming computer, but it will be absolutely perfect for Xander as he starts school next year.
