Nando’s PERi-PERi, the South African-Portuguese restaurant known worldwide for its spicy flame-grilled chicken, will open three new Chicagoland locations this fall and winter. The new locations mark the ninth, tenth, and eleventh Chicago locations for the popular restaurant renowned for its succulent PERi-PERi chicken.
“Our Chicago fans have given us the warmest welcome since we opened in the Windy City more than a year ago,” said Burton Heiss, CEO of Nando’s PERi-PERi USA. “We look forward to continuing to fire up new grills all around the Chicago area.”
Nando’s, which operates restaurants in 23 nations from Australia to Zimbabwe, first moved to the United States in 2008. It set up shop in Washington, DC, and, since then, has opened three dozen restaurants in and around Chicago, the nation’s capital and Baltimore.
From the earliest days, rabid fans from across the country have urged Nando’s to open in their hometowns. In fall 2014, Nando’s invited its Facebook and Twitter followers to help select Nando’s second major U.S. metropolitan area. Thousands took to social media to lobby for their hometowns and Nando’s selected Chicago at the end of 2014.
Nando’s has built an intensely loyal following, from London to the Loop, by providing fresh food in a relaxed atmosphere with friendly service. Nando’s is known worldwide for its succulent PERi-PERi chicken, marinated for 24 hours, flame-grilled to perfection, and basted to the customer’s preferred flavor and spice. Every Nando’s is painstakingly designed and completely unique, with earthy textures and bright colors that reflect its sunny African-Portuguese heritage. With thousands of pieces of original works of art that are a constant reminder of where the restaurant came from, Nando’s has become the largest collector of South African contemporary art in the world.
