When should I buy my Euros? (Dayle Littlejohn)

Over the last 2 weeks GBPEUR exchange rates have increased by 4 cents making a €200,000 purchase over £5,000 cheaper.

In my opinion the reason for the increase is that the remain ‘In” campaign has gained momentum in recent weeks and this is reflected in the latest poll by the Sunday Times.

In addition this weekend US President Barack Obama has also been rallying voted for remain part of the European Union. He has exclaimed the UK are better off being part of the EU and if the UK leave and expect to negotiate a trade deal with the US this could take 10 years!

The economic event last week that made the headlines was President of the European Central Bank Mario Draghi press conference. He stated Interest Rate will remain extremely low for a long period.

I feel we could see another spike for Euro buyers early Monday morning off the back of the US Presidents comments however I wouldn’t be surprised to see GBPEUR exchange rates fall back towards 1.24-1.26 in the coming weeks.

If you have Euros to buy before June 23^rd I would take advantage of the 4 cent spike in your favour. If you are selling Euros I would continue to monitor the market and trade closer to the EU referendum.

Economic data this week

UK GDP figures are released at 9.30am on Wednesday. GDP numbers have been revised down of late and I wouldn’t be surprised to see this trend continue. Prediction Sterling weakness

Friday the Eurozone release their latest Consumer Price Index (inflation) numbers. The ECB have been injecting a substantial amount of capital into the economy and an increase from 0% is likely. Prediction Euro Strength.
