Hobby Lobby May Close All Stores In 41 States Due To Obamacare Abortion Mandate

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

RELATED STORY: Obama Brags That Taxpayer-Funded Abortion Will Never Stop In America

When my family and I started our company 40 years ago, we were working out of a garage on a $600 bank loan, assembling miniature picture frames. Our first retail store wasn’t much bigger than most people’s living rooms, but we had faith that we would succeed if we lived and worked according to God’s word.

From there, Hobby Lobby has become one of the  nation’s largest arts and crafts retailers, with more than 500 locations in 41 states. Our children grew up into fine business leaders, and today we run Hobby Lobby together, as a family.

We’re Christians, and we run our business on Christian principles. I’ve always said that the first two goals of our business are (1) to run our business in harmony with God’s laws, and (2) to focus on people more than money. And that’s what we’ve tried to do. We close early so our employees can see their families at night. We keep our stores closed on Sundays, one of the week’s biggest shopping days, so that our workers and their families can enjoy a day of rest.

We believe that it is by God’s grace that Hobby Lobby has endured, and he has blessed us and our employees. We’ve not only added jobs in a weak economy, we’ve raised wages for the past four years in a row. Our full-time employees start at  80% above minimum wage. But now, our government threatens to change all of that.

A new government healthcare mandate says that our family business MUST provide what I believe are abortion-causing drugs as part of our health insurance. Being Christians, we don’t pay for drugs that might cause abortions, which means that we don’t cover emergency contraception, the morning-after pill or the week-after pill. We believe doing so might end a life after the moment of conception, something that is contrary to our most important beliefs.

It goes against the Biblical principles on which we have run this company since day one. If we refuse to comply, we could face $1.3 million PER DAY in government fines.

Our government threatens to fine job creators in a bad economy.
Our government threatens to fine a company that’s raised wages four years running.
Our government threatens to fine a family for running its business according to its beliefs.  It’s not right. I know people will say we ought to follow the  rules; that it’s the same for everybody. But that’s not true.

The government has exempted thousands of companies from this mandate, for reasons of convenience or cost.  But it won’t exempt them for reasons of religious belief.

So, Hobby Lobby and my family are forced to make a choice. With great reluctance, we filed a lawsuit today, represented by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, asking a federal court to stop this mandate before it hurts our business. We don’t like to go running into court, but we no longer have a choice. We believe people are more important than the bottom line and that honoring God is more important than turning a profit.

My family has lived the American dream. We want to continue growing our company and providing great jobs for thousands of employees, but the government is  going to make that much more difficult.

The government is forcing us to choose between following our faith and following the law.  I say that’s a choice no American and no American business should have to make. The government cannot force you to follow laws that go against your fundamental religious belief. They have exempted thousands of companies but will not except Christian organizations including the Catholic church.

Since you will not see this in the liberal media, please pass this on to all your contacts.

Sincerely,
David Green
CEO and Founder of Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.

Please try to think for yourselves rather than go down on your knees to some invented deity.

it might be refreshing and enlightening.

“at the very least i can spell and utilise grammar correctly.”

theres no spelling or grammar errors in his comment, ( exclude fundie as short for fundamentalist )

          you demented retard.

        • Heart Of Winter

He refers to you as a “mass murdering statist individualist” while somehow forgetting that more people have been killed in the name of religion, BY FAR, than any other reason.

Keep in mind, it was christianity who used to set people on fire simply for saying the Earth revolved around the Sun. Fundies like this would still be doing it if they still had the power to. Never again.

HOW – what you say about religion is correct. in fact george w bush said he invaded iraq because god told him to..

while i believe the religious to be intellectual cripples.. plsnogod was making the non religious look silly by implying there were spelling and grammatical errors where there was none. theres enough genuine reasons to be critical of the religious without having to resort to making things up.

          anon,i take your point,
but to be fair, this mirabolin has been following me around BIN,and some of his/her posts are incomprehensible.

          Mirabolin
Your aspergic understanding of ‘belief’ is not others you refugee from your fundie background.

        What a foolish remark.
God is a real person you will meet.

The fact that you chastise them for their ‘religious’ attitudes and claim your self exempt from those same attitudes, all the while using the very same religious propaganda that god is some fluffy cloud non entity myth, is the real deception.

        Set yourself free.

There was and is a very real War going on. It is visible all around you.

This war is between two very real opponents. One is the Father of the Branch of Mankind, and SET/An is the Father of the Branch of Reptiles from the Abyss.

The other side (SET) who is opposing mankind in this war, created the Coven age (ie “C.E. 1901″ Luciferian) which became renamed ‘religions’. They used the religions for entrainment of the populations, to choose their side …very similar to the Nazi Youth program. By altering and redifining words, they altered our concept of ‘god’ and ‘heaven’, the ‘creation’, ‘satan’ and the ‘abyss’ and the ‘underworld’.

These are people. One is ‘good’ and his place of origin is “Heaven” which is another location with Laurel Worlds, which is where Earth is From. SET/An is ‘evil’ and his place of origin is negative space called the Abyss, and this is where they pulled Earth. We ‘fell’ into the lower plane.

This about to end. We’re being towed out. Moved up, back to our original location. The division of the families is the division of those who are ‘good’ from those who are ‘evil’. The Law is, SET may keep those that choose him, by act, deed, oath or other means.

New Century Version – Dan 8:23-25

23 “When the end comes near for those kingdoms, a bold and cruel king who tells lies will come. This will happen when many people have turned against God.24 This king will be very powerful, but his power will not come from himself. He will cause terrible destruction and will be successful in everything he does. He will destroy powerful people and even God’s holy people.25 This king will succeed by using lies and force. He will think that he is very important. He will destroy many people without warning; he will try to fight even the Prince of princes! But that cruel king will be destroyed, and not by human power”.

I have to respect the owners for standing up for what they believe (even though I don’t believe the same thing). If all businesses were that stubborn against Obamacare, then they would have no choice but to repeal it. A complete cutoff of money to the govt would show them that they have no power without the people. They need to listen to the people and do as they wish.

BIN- You have lost all credibility, this is debunked anywhere you look. I know you won’t publish this (you didn’t publish the links I sent debunking this) so consider this a goodbye from a formerly fooled reader. You are the problem, not the solution.

    • plsnogod

      mirabolin,

you really are going to alot of trouble on my behalf,
even inventing secondary personas to mark me down.
      thankyou.

methinks i have touched a nerve.

this is the whole problem with religious zealots.
they are prepared to be violent verbally and physically for their mythical gods.

why do you think there have been so many wars, and so much death and destruction over the centuries?

try to calm down. think of your blood pressure if nothing else.

      • JG

Yes, yes we have to take time out from feeding the hungry, drilling wells to give people fresh water, provide medical care to thousands of children and adults, providing clothing, medicine, food, to victims of natural disasters, help rebuild homes destroyed by the same, assist the elderly and sick, volunteer in countless capacities, to kill a bunch of people in a few wars.

Yes, we do have a busy schedule, don’t we. And we still have to take time to be killed just for being Christians, too.

Why, blaming Christians for all the wars and killing makes perfect logical sense! Right.

        • plsnogod

          not just christians.

most religions have killed in their name over a long history.
i simply make the point that religion causes huge discord, and divides the people
of the planet and often drives them to kill.

i just think we could do without it.

btw, i do not think you have to believe in a deity in order to drill wells and help people.
most of the large charities who do such works are not in any way religious.

        • JG

Again, your assumptions are so obvious! As if to say that if religions didn’t exist, none of the killing- by dictators to name one-would have happened.

I wish that you could stop hating us long enough to look at how your own mind’s reasoning is focusing on an object! You are the sum total of what you believe, even if you can’t see it.

You now admit that other charities do the same. They get credit but we don’t.

You are deciding by your own reasoning who is good, who is evil, who kills, who starts wars, and so on.

You’ve decided religious people-mostly Christians based on your comments so far- are only capable of evil, no good at all. Do you think you are truly seeing things with an open, unbiased mind?

I try to get people-all people- to start seeing and thinking outside the box that each of us lives in, which allows us to see beyond this reality we “think” we know.

You do not have all the scientific, archaeological, or even spiritual evidence you need to determine if God exists. Your assumption even goes so far as to create what this god you think doesn’t exist looks like, how he would behave, and so on. Just like the rest of us at times.

Religions are an effect, not necessarily a cause, of the human race’s actions as they strive to learn, to survive, to love.

If you ever want to be free and at peace, choose to love all people, regardless of who they are or what they believe. This, by the way, is considered the greatest commandment. Love one another!

        • plsnogod

          thanks for your comments JG,
though i feel pretty comfortable that i can think outside the box.

firstly, i do not believe the christian religion at the present time is a very aggressive and lethal one.

that i do reserve for the horribly pernicious muslim faith whose koranic doctrine is to kill all those who are not muslim(to cut a long story short).

secondly, my pre and post masters educational background is in prehistoric archaeology and history.
so i do know a ‘little’ about the darwinian route from our australopithecine beginnings in sub-saharan africa through to homo erectus and to homo sapien(to cut another long story short).

so do forgive me if i do feel a touch ill at ease with any creationalist, who presumably believes ‘god’ not only cunningly placed all of the fossil evidence in the ground, but even more cunningly made sure the scientific dating went back millions of years.

as for history, much of my work has been to study the religious practices of past and present civilisations.
what any good student of history will verify,is that mankind have always fervently believed in deities. these range from the sun, planets and inanimate objects, through to multiple deities, through to the current fad for a single god.

but one thing they all have in common,is that each of them are utterly convinced their god is the only true god,and the rest are false. sadly many kill for this reason.

many other things kill, dictators,i agree completely. but i have no time for them either.

i take on board what you write, and i am sure you are not evil, but i still believe the human race would be better off without these superstitions around which evil can be wrapped.

i share with you love for my fellow man.

        • JG

Thank you for your comments. I also am familiar with our history, but I look beyond the fossil record toward the amazing mysteries of past civilizations, the finding of dinosaur and man’s footprints side by side, pyramids and cities under the sea all over the world, the obvious findings of past civilizations on Mars, artifacts completely out of place and time, and so on. In fairness, I’m sure my interpretation of it would be far different than yours, though.

I am not familiar with creationists who claim “evidence” was put in the ground, but I’m sure there are some out there. After all, there are just as many opinions about these subjects as there are people. One for each, no two are alike. Ever.

But I still see that you in fact do think within the box, because you do not allow, no matter how unlikely in your mind, for the possibility that God exists. While I can certainly appreciate-and be a little envious at the same time-of your education, it has apparently jaded your mind from experiencing new realities that lie beyond the one you live in.

The behavior that you see in what seems to be the majority of religious people, is due in large part to ignorance. People simply believe the best that they can, while trying to cope with life events. It is very difficult to break through the programming we all experience as we live. Given the right environment and opportunity, most people willingly learn new truth, as best that they can within their own life framework.

And yes, I know about humanity’s history with deities. But what you’re missing, again, is allowing for the possibility that some of the history might in fact be true.

The hard part for you is that you can’t understand that my belief as a Christian is far, far more than a simple belief in a deity. It is based on decades of learning, searching, and most importantly, experiencing first-hand a divine presence in my life. It’s just about impossible to convey this in words. I believe you have experienced things also, but your mind remains closed to any possibility that your experiences are anything other than just random chance.

You must have people in your life whose opinions you trust. What do they all say? Do any of them believe in God? Have any had unusual experiences? Dreams? Unexplained events? Do you disregard their stories if they seem to contradict your current belief system?

Have there been events in your life that hurt you so deep that you can’t understand how God could “let it happen”?

As for the comments about the Muslim faith, I understand that it’s very easy to hate them for the evils that they do. And if I were attacked by them, I just might “sin” in my response. But honestly, I just feel compelled to “live and let live”, choosing a state of being of love as best that I can. It’s not easy for me. I’m still working at it.
