Satellite Outage: Prelude To American Police State

Our modern day society has become reliant on satellites. Ask anyone if there was anything in the world they couldn’t live without. Most are going to say their cellphone. It could be their television, or their computers. But it’s much more than that. What slips most people minds is their ability to access their bank accounts, to operate their GPS, make purchases, etc. We rely on satellites so much that we don’t even realize. Our whole society is operated via satellite.

Commercially, satellite affect out immediate daily lives down here. For instance, when we go to the gas station and pay at the pump with credit, our card has to go through an authorization process. As you’re waiting for the authorization, the signal travels up the to satellite. Until you’re authorized, you can’t pay for gas. Yet another good reason to pay gas with cash, if you have it on you. If you don’t, you’ll have to get some money out of the ATM, which essentially goes through the same process.

Now imagine all of this, gone. A terrorist or country at war with us managed to knock satellites into decommission.

Satellite Outage

How might this happen in the first place? A country, declaring an act of war on us, could decide to take the advantage by shooting off a rocket into low orbit. It was always a concern that the Iranians could get nuclear capability and blow something up in the atmosphere. North Korea, a country with nuclear capabilities, has demonstrated nuclear testing. In wartime, it would seem possible that they could misled the world into believing they were conducting another test. Instead, they were setting off a satellite destroying missile. This may be the beginning of World War 3. This may be the beginning of the end. The ramifications of a detonation such as this, would have a lot of impact on the ground. But it would have much more impact low orbiting satellites in space, where all of our technological capabilities are linked to.

First, our national security would be compromised. Our military communicates most of its affairs through the use of satellites as well. The impacts would be severe. Ground and sea forces depend heavily on space capabilities, obviously for GPS navigation, precision targeting, etc. Most of the Air Force’s and Navy’s airdrop precision weapons would have their accuracy decreased dramatically. The United States would lose its global positioning capabilities and worldwide spy surveillance satellites. Essentially, the American military would lose their eyes. The signal intelligence wouldn’t be able to listen nor track cell phone conversations. While this would be a relief, consider that now terrorist communications (on an unaffected satellite) will be about to communicate more freely.

Total satellite blackout is less likely. However…

Life in the public sector would slow down to a crawl. Lost of satellite communications can disrupt financial transactions here on Earth. There would be massive panic on the emotionally-laden Wall Street. People would be in fear of losing their jobs. Many would have already lost their livelihood. Business transactions nowadays are done by electronics. Under the Great Blackout, it would be near impossible to conduct business. How will people buy food? How will people eat? There would be no news of this on the television, the internet or even the radio. Some cars won’t even function properly, as many of them are electronic hybrids.

Look at the chaos that has been created. We would be relegated to a type of dark ages in terms of information. Immediately, we would have a real problem on two front: both with the national security side, as well as our economic securities.

Many Americans nowadays don’t remember, and even have never experience, a time without satellite intervention. As stated before, everything here on earth is taken for granted. Even without a second thought, if your screen were to go blank, how might you react? Our first method of even knowing if something has happened is to turn on the TV, or find out the new on the internet. But those communications have been silenced. Suddenly, those few things that we could never have done without are now inoperable. Cellphones no longer operate. But for the few of us who have landlines, communication and information may still exist on some small scale level. But how many people still have landlines anymore? Losing satellites would affect the individual very quickly. On the face of it all, Americans might take to the street, looting in preparation for what they think may come next. And at this point in our lives, the future will be uncertain.

At this point in which Americans become anxious, a state of emergency becomes a real possibility. There will be mass regret, for why everything was brought over to the electronic for a disaster like this to occur.

If we were to lose our database capabilities, many people with nefarious agendas will try to take advantage of America. This will leave our military in a tough spot. Our political leadership would be in the same boat. How would you quell the nation-wide violence, riots and looting, and maintain some sort of order in a low functioning society? You would have to institute a police state.

With our entire lives controlled by these dead machines in the sky, and a police state on the way, what happens next?
