Decoding The 5 Pillars Of Scripture Twisting In Rick Warren’s New Age Daniel Plan

Using different bible versions to make the text say something it does not say

ARCHIVE: Daniel Plan Pt. 1Daniel Plan Pt. 2Daniel Plan Pt. 3

EDITOR’S NOTE: One reason why people like Rick Warren love to use multiple bible versions is to make the bible say something it doesn’t say. The trick is, you simply find the version that rewrites the scripture to suit how you want to twist it and then you can say, “see? It’s right there in the bible”. That’s why we stick with the King James, helps to keep everybody honest.

In Part 2, I left off with Dr Mark Hyman discussing the foods that you should eat on the plan to obtain optimum health.  After his talk Rick Warren returns for the next part of the sermon.  For those who would like to pull down the notes or review the video you can find them here.   In an effort to show you how using multiple bible versions will twist and turn the meaning into something different, I have included the provided versions from Rick Warren’s sermon notes and added the comparable King James Version verse in this document.

Rick Warren begins with defining what the Daniel Plan is, stating “It’s more than a diet”. These are their 5 Pillars which were credited as being created by Dr Amen and Dr Hyman:

1.  Healthy people eat healthy foods. – Food Factor
2.  Healthy people think healthy thoughts – Focus Factor
3.  Healthy people manage their energy – Fitness Factor
4.  Healthy people enlist supportive friends – Friend Factor
5.  Healthy people depend on God – Faith Factor

Dr Hyman took Pillar #1 and I discussed it in Part #2.

Pillar #2 –  Focus Factor

Dr Amen did his presentation on Pillar #2.   He gave examples of something called the dinosaur syndrome – the bigger your body is, the littler your brain is.  He tells the people do “develop brain envy”, meaning that you should care about your brain.  Stop doing anything that hurts your brain

Now keep in mind that Dr Amen is a psychiatrist.  It is reported that he is a Christian and I was able to see that he graduated from Oral Roberts University in 1982 with a medical degree.    His clinic offers therapies such as hypnotherapy which is troubling given that the roots of hypnotism are in the founder of Anton Mesmer, an occultist.   I think this is a fair representation of the issues we face as Christians with hypnosis.  Dr Amen also promotes a New Age practice called Tantric Sex which is taught by Buddhism and Hinduism.  Women of Grace shares some concerns along with quotes from his books on this topic.  Lighthouse Trails Research also weighs in on the dangers that Dr Amen’ brings to the table with tantra mysticism.   **Warning** this is not a topic I would dig into.  It leads to some very dark places that I believe Christians should not open doors to.  I just wanted to point out that this is part of the counsel given to Rick Warren for his Daniel Plan being placed in churches.

The Emergent Church has fallen heavily into New Age spiritualism, this is Warren disciple Rob Bell:

Dr. Amen also recommends Yoga and Tai Chi to his Fibromyalgia patients.  Another Hindu practice that opens the body up to the Kundalini spirit. Does a believer participate and promote things that are clearly against God?   I make no judgement just asking the question.

2 Corinthians 6:14-17 (KJV)  – 14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Pillar #4 – Friend Factor

This section was given by the Daniel Plan Director named “Dee”.  She seemed nice enough and didn’t offer much substance.  I didn’t watch her entire presentation as I was more interested in the doctrines Rick Warren was promoting so I moved on to the next pillar.

Pillar #5 – The Faith Factor

This was an interesting conversation that we embarked on with Rick Warren.

Rick tells us that we must “learn God power not will power”.  As if we pull him off the shelf each time our body screams for a cookie and the God power takes over.  He uses Luke 17:19 (AMP) to tell us that “Your Faith has restored you to health” as if somehow those who do not heal from health conditions are lacking in faith.  This goes strongly with the “word of faith” movement believing that you get what you desire through faith and proclamation that you will receive something.

I Cor 10:31 was used to tell the people that if you eat or drink the right things you are doing them for the glory of God  and you will have a “Greater Motivation”.  Which fed into I Cor 9:25 which described an athlete who worked hard to win but compared that to the “we” who do it for the one who lasts forever giving us a “Greater Reward”.

And then things went very wrong…….

“The Bible teaches the importance of both rest and exercise”, states Rick Warren, who then quoted

Psalm 127:2 LBIt is senseless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, fearing you will starve to death; for God wants His loved ones to get their proper rest”.

Now let’s take a look at the KJV and what it says.  Does it mention anything about starving to death?

Psalm 127:2  (KJV)  It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

Rick Warren goes on to say:  “Rest is so important to your health that God put it in the big 10.  It’s in the 10 commandments right up there with don’t murder, don’t lie, don’t commit adultery.  It says after every 6 days of working you take a day off for rest and worship.  It is that important.  If your not taking a day off every week for rest and worship, you are breaking the 10 commandments.   That’s how important it is. ” (position 35:00 – 37:06 in the video).

As Christian believers does this make you cringe?  Because it should.  The 10 Commandments were part of the Old Covenant for the Jews.  They were not given to the New Testament believers. Read the rest of this story on Stepping Stones Living..
