The Safest and Riskiest Ways to Buy Gold

The first principle of economics is that life is a series of tradeoffs. To get something, you usually have to trade something for it. When it comes to investing, that means that you usually have to choose which values are more important to you.

When it comes to finance in general, the two most common values are “profit” and “security”. Some people want massive profits and are willing to take on massive risks. Some people — like myself — are more focused on financial security, and want the safest investments possible.

Below we’ll talk about how to use gold to achieve potential profits and/or financial security.

Investing in Gold for Profit

The more potential rewards you can get with an investment, the riskier it usually is. In other words, you can make a lot — or you can completely lose your shirt. Here are some risky ways that have giant potential profits:

• Leveraged ETF. A leveraged ETF is a way of investing in gold and silver by risking your portfolio. You can get 200% or more of the daily earnings of gold — but if gold loses money, you lose your shirt. If it goes down drastically, you can find yourself in debt. This is extremely risky.

• Penny Gold Stocks. Most penny stocks collapse. Nearly all do, actually. Mutual funds usually stay away from penny stocks because they are incredibly, incredibly risky. I don’t own and probably won’t ever own any penny stocks. That said, if you pick the right one, you can turn thousands into millions.

Investing in Gold for Security

Of course, some people — like myself — aren’t interested in risky investments. I just want to beat inflation and maybe get a small return. I’m not looking to get rich with my portfolio — I just don’t want to lose money.

For people like us, the simplest way to invest in gold is simply to own gold and silver bullion. You can buy silver through Silver Saver like I do, or find another dealer.

If there’s an economic collapse, the leveraged ETF will probably become meaningless, and paper assets will dissapear overnight. Not so with physical gold bullion. You’ll still have it — something paper gold doesn’t have in its favor.
