Manifesting a Garden

Reality is a tricky beast. As part of my summer reading I’ve been enjoying some reality bending books on the holographic universe, perception, and magic. I am feeling pretty open to various interpretations of “reality.” However, I argue, if you find yourself standing in a garden and believe you have manifested it in that very moment (through the mere perception of it) and you do not have a sunburn; dirt somewhere on you; mussed hair; and pleasant fatigue, you have not manifested a garden, you are enjoying a garden someone else, uh, manifested…I’m just sayin’.

After several months of neglect, I wrestled the ol’ Pluck and Feather farm into shape. This was not what you might call fun but this part of growing food is essential. Being up close and in the layers of dirt and plant lets you know whats going on in there. You pick up information on soil condition, the health of neighboring plants, the presence of any new animals…etc. You also get a more intimate sense of the space. This is important if you want your planting to grow in an aesthetically pleasing way. You also get the creative delight of letting the unexpected take over. For example, in the absence of chickens, the layers of manure and composted food in the chicken run took care of themselves. While I was lamenting not having planted any tomatoes this year, turns out they planted themselves.The floor of the chicken run is covered in tomato volunteers. Cool.

After a long day of hard work, Dipak, a.k.a El Maestro Cocinero, broke out the cast iron to tear things up in the kitchen.

With a great summer vegetable dinner, a walk at the lake and some Prosecco, I have to say it was one of the best days in the garden, and outside of it.
