What Is Edun? Bono And Ali Hewson Talk Cotton, Africa and Edun

Edun, ethical clothing made with organic cotton was started by rockstar Bono and his wife Ali Hewson. Their mission is to promote trade with Africa but providing skills and economy to African people. 80% of products are manufactured in Africa.

In addition in Uganda, Edun has created The Conservation Cotton Initiative (CCI), the WCS and Invisible Children to build sustainable farming communities and provide a fair trade market for their cotton. The CCI Uganda Program is based in the Gulu District, an area recovering from a civil war, which displaced millions. The CCI Initiative assists farmers who are returning to their land by providing funding, tools, and training to grow a sustainable cotton business.

And in Kenya Edun partnered with Made Africa to produce a series of tees that bring to life hand drawings made by children from the Bidii School in Kibera, Kenya. Kibera is home to 1.5 million people-more than one quarter of Nairobi’s population-making it one of the largest slums in Africa. The majority of the population lives without clean water or sanitation. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of these tees will go back to fund basic needs, such as lunch, supplies, healthcare, and development projects at the Bidii School.
