Come On Baby Light My Fire!

It’s February and we’ve got passion on the brain! But passion isn’t just smooches and sexiness (although we’ll have some tidbits on that this month, too!), it’s a deeply emotional and spiritual drive that fuels the most personal and fulfilling elements of our lives. This month, we asked our editors,”what ignites your passion?”

Adwoa

Silly as it may seem to say it, what I’m passionate about…is passion. Whether that’s pinpointing exactly what I feel or see with writing or photography, immersing myself in music made by people whose incredible love of what they do is fully proportionate to their skill, surrounding myself with others as devoted to sucking the marrow out of life as I am: I cannot get enough of love, of one’s body or one’s work or one’s hobby or one’s adventures or one’s partner. I love engaging in it and being around it, and cultivating a life that’s full of it with a sense of spaciousness – like I’m living the most enormous life possible!  I feel healthier and calmer, and it’s been lovely to discover that passion that nourishes is more sustainable than passion that depletes, across all aspects of my life. - Adwoa, Managing Editor

Steve

I think passion affects my life in two particular ways, either what I’m doing or who I’m with, and for both t’s mostly about aligning myself with purpose. Essentially, I think that passion is a spiritual thing. I think it’s beyond a merely emotional, mental, or physical sensation. When I get passionately involved, in a project or a person, I feel like my life is perfectly balanced. So if I’m not feeling connected to something that I’m doing, or someone that I’m with, the juices aren’t going to flow like when I’m “in the zone.” The best ignition I’ve found is just trying to be as present as possible, and open to whichever path will lead to the greatest purpose and the highest passion. - Steve, Lifestyle Guru

Shayna

I’m passionate about the power of the creativity. We each have the power within us to make anything happen; part of that comes from simply believing that we can and the other part comes from our ability to see possibilities and not just what is, i.e. creativity. When we’re passionately tapped into our creativity, I think we access a universal knowledge we all have within us that allows us to communicate on a fundamentally human level.  For me, reading people’s stories, exploring new ideas, immersing myself in a song,  these things fuel me and inspire my passion to be creative every day. - Shayna, Beyond Beauty Editor

Jody

Everybody has a passion. It’s one of those things that keep us sane. For years, when I was frustrated or traveling, happy or sad, I would write. As I prepared for college, I really dug deep to figure out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, and writing was it. I love to write, it’s an escape from everyday life. It’s what I am passionate about because it gives me the ability to inform people as well as shine the light on causes in the fashion industry that not many like to focus on.  I have dreams and goals for my writing and every year, I get a little closer with the support of friends and family. They are who motivate me. They are the ones who inspire me to do what I really want to do. They help keep my passion alive. – Jody, Conscious Fashion Editor

Nadya

I am passionate about exploring human potential. I think we are amazing, powerful creatures and we are just starting to tap into what we are capable of doing and understanding. A huge part of achieving the maximum human potential is finding a balanced state of mind which comes when the body is healthy and functions at an optimal level. Every day I work with people helping them to find their balance and to improve their health through mindful eating and movement. Seeing the changes that people experience in their life with increased mindfulness and better health motivates me and inspires me. - Nadya, Wellness Warrior

Jaszy

It might sound a whee bit hoky, but right now I’m passionate about life…specifically, my life. I’m loving who I am and loving the skin I find myself in these days. I believe I spent most of my thirties trying to find myself, holding my breath until I could feel settled enough with who I was personally and professionally. These days, as I creep past forty, I’m finding that I spend more time realizing and understanding all of the things that I am not and loving the journey. I’m passionate about these new discoveries…how my body is changing, my outlook on life and relationships, and finding ways to feel and be content with being me. I’m less afraid to speak my truth, express my wildly passionate sexuality, and hold myself and others to unrealistic expectations. I’m no longer living my life on bated breath. - Jaszy, Head Honcho
