Yogi’s Daily TO DO List

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Self-transformation, reinvention, or just dropping a bad habit don’t happen overnight. This month’s theme at Modern Hippie Mag is adventure, transformation and evolution. But instead of sharing my adventurous and transformative stories in my life, I would like to share with you my every day TO DO list that has allowed me to reinvent myself.

Most of my daily reinvention rules come from the book The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. I have a copy of this list taped on my bathroom mirror and in front of my refrigerator so that I have no excuse to forget about it, and even if I don’t get through the whole list, I do my best to at least accomplish three of them, and believe it or not, it makes a remarkable difference in my life.

  1. Give thanks to the Universe (or God if you call it that way) for allowing you to wake up another day and for all the blessings in your life (family, friends, work, food on your table, love, health…). We are used to wake up on autopilot – coffee, shower, work, and whatever follows. But we don’t stop for one minute to look around and realize that our lives are full of blessings and beauty. When something good happens to us we call it “good luck”, but it isn’t. It’s the Universe watching over you, so be grateful.

  2. Meditate at least once a day. This one requires A LOT of commitment, if you are not used to meditation take it easy, baby steps. Start with 3 minutes a day and progressively add one minute. You will find many excuses not to meditate, but this is as important if not more than picking up the cleaners.

  3. Be pure in your words towards yourself and towards others. Sometimes we engage in negative self-talk without being aware of it. It leads to poor self-esteem and low self-confidence. Try to be nice, loving and gentle towards yourself no matter what happened throughout your day. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

  4. Do not take things personally. The world does not spin around you. Either for good or for bad, whatever is on people’s mind has nothing to do with you. Everybody acts in accordance to their own beliefs, so don’t be egocentric thinking that you are the center of the Universe, it’s not about you.

  5. Do not make assumptions. If you have a doubt, ask. Many times our ego would not allow us to be humble and set the record straight when something is bothering us. Over-thinking things, making up our own stories based in questionable assumptions, and refusing to recognize that we might be wrong can turn anyone’s life into a living hell.

  6. Do not complain. Oh yes, you do complain many times a day you just are not aware of that. We complain about work, weather, traffic, how much laundry and cleaning we got at home to do, etc. But when you become a grateful person and count your blessings, you watch your words before you speak about others and yourself, you don’t take things personal and you don’t make assumptions, you will stop complaining. If you have nothing nice or positive to say, just don’t say anything, silence is precious.

  7. Do not gossip. We all are guilty of it. The important thing is to stop doing it. It is being said that when someone gossips about other people with you, that same person will gossip about you with everyone else. So, like a good Mexican philosopher would say “calladita te ves mas bonita” (When you are not talking you look even prettier).

  8. Repeat 1-7

Question to you: what is on your daily to-do list? Where do you get inspiration to drop bad habits and work towards becoming your better self

Namaste.
