Top 6 Ways To ReUse Ink Cartridges

Ink Cartridges an necessary evil despite our really trying to go paperless. They are NOT biodegradable. They are made from plastic, which is oil based and increases our addiction to oil.. Another little eco-bit, you can reuse an ink cartridge up to 4x!

• In North America, more than 40,000 tons of plastic and metal is saved from landfills just by recycling ink Cartridges.
• We can Save 40 tons of plastic and 1,000,000  265,000 gallons of oil just by recycling cartridges
• Over 375 million empty ink and toner cartridges are thrown away with most ending up in landfills or in incinerators. which equates to over 1 million cartridges per day.
• 70% of ink cartridges and 50% of toners are NOT recycled.
• It takes three pounds of resources to make a new cartridge and over 3.3 ounces of oil, just for 1 cartridge.
• In Australia: More than 18 million ink cartridges are thrown away each year.

The most economic thing to do is recycle and or refill your ink cartridges. It’s a perfect green and save. You save money and the the environment. For those who care about the toxic effects of ink.. all those ‘empty’ ink cartridges leak ink.. into our water.

So what else can you?

1.) Clean them up and use for kids toys. Decorate and depending on the type, make some dolls or little storage boxes.

The best thing to do is not to print.. But if you have to print, use the back side of used paper use recycled paper.  Refill your ink cartridges and be sure to recycle them.
