Edible Six Pack Ring Feeds Marine Animals

You would think that the day of the O’Ring or the plastic six pack beverage ring would be over. Since the 1980’s, everyone I know has broken the ‘O’ and thrown them away. Six pack O Rings can be found almost daily on the beach and in parking lots. With the amount of beer and other beverages drunk, they are not easy to find, as they blend in with the sand. But they are there. 

Who hasn’t seen this picture with the turtle? Who hasn’t seen images of birds eating them, or seals being choked by plastic six pack rings and even in the movie Happy Feet’s Lovelace is wearing a Six Pack Ring.

One brewery has solved this problem, Florida based SaltWater Brewery seems to be the first brewery to use or test biodegradable six-pack rings. They were designed by E6PR. the Eco Six-Pack Ring is made products used in beer-crafing, which are wheat and barley. All compostable ingredients. Humans and animals can eat them! Just a little nosh with your beer.

Kudos to them, not only are they joining the fight to save the ocean by eliminating plastic pollution, they also are very involved in their community. They support CCA Florida, Surfrider Foundation, The Ocean Foundation, MOTE Marine Laboratory & Aquarium and Billfish Foundation with events in their tasting room and they sponsor beach clean ups.
