The ‘Horribly Mutated’ Seafood In The Gulf Of Mexico

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

BP oil spill: The ‘horribly mutated’ creatures living in the Gulf. Fish, shrimp, and crabs are missing eyes and suffering strange deformities, according to a harrowing new report — yet the FDA insists the seafood’s safe to eat.

Shrimp born without eyes, clawless crabs, and fish with visible tumors are among the “horrible mutated”marine animals found in the waters off the Gulf Coast, according to a new report from Al Jazeera. Scientists say the problem is a side effect of the April 2010 explosion of BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil rig, which killed 11 people and spilled at least 4.9 million barrels of oil into the ocean. Here, a brief guide to the damage:

You won’t see me eating any seafood from anywhere.  Not a fan. -Mort

      we’re friggin’ killing this planet.

      • Realist

I hope so. Sooner, the better.

        • xdrfox

Careful hat ou ask for, .. we are at the door !

      • JettaBlack

Please adjust the object of your comment a bit: I’m not killing the planet, you’re probably not killing the planet, in fact, I don’t know of any people in my spheres that are destroying the planet. I do, however, know of several corporations and governments that are destroying the planet and blaming it on us.

        • igot1thatcansee

We are killing the planet when we sit on the fence and let these corporate vampires get away with the devastation of the planet.

Al Jazeera??? REALLY? You’re pulling your info from a middle eastern news source? ‘Cause we all know those Al Jazeera reporters on on the scene in bayou country! I can tell you that critters been coming out of the ocean down there that are messed up for decades. It ain’t nothing unusual. Oil and gas leak into the ocean from natural ports all the time and have for millennia. Things that cause problems are man-made unnatural chemicals. Those get dumped into the system down there routinely and may very well be the source of trouble. But the BP spill probably is not the source. This is Al Jazeera trying to make Americans not want to drill here so we’ll continue buying the black gold from them.

      • Confederate

        You got that right!

      • Anonymous

It’s that CHEMICAL that they used billions of gallons after the explosion. It had been banned in Europe.

    • Drew B

Live near the coast and haven’t seen any local reports of mutated sea life or caught/eaten any with malformations. Despite reports the Gulf is very safe, beautiful, and open for business. “Jacksreport” statements above are very true. Tar/oil balls half been a part of the Gulf of Mexico for all 40 years I have been visiting it. The oil balls and sheen were worse immediately after the spill, we vacationed there in June of 2010, but by 2011 the beaches and wildlife were all back to pre spill normalcy. Blue crabs are full size with all appendages, red snapper are big and tasty as ever, flounder are flat and delicious, royal reds are succulent, spanish mackerel still cruise the coast, and the oysters are just as good this year as they were in 09. Why in the heII would we believe anything Al Jazeera has to say? Please to god don’t tell me this worth publishing because of their connections with Al Gore!?! If we can’t believe our own MSM, why believe it from the middle east?

      • cforce

Are you mental? Maybe from all the poison you’re ingesting. The oil is still coming and the gulf is a sacrifice zone. The world is going to hell. Thanks government, corporations, and greed…

        • Drew B

Not mental in the least. Oil has been naturally spilling from the gulf and other oceans for 1000′s of years. You think you aren’t breathing in just as many poisons with every breath? What about the hormones and antibiotics that they are pumping into every grocery store bought piece of meat? What about the GM grains that you’ve been feeding to your kids every morning in their cereal? Monsanto has done more damage with their modified grain and pesticide/herbicide programs than any oil spill or dispersant used in the gulf. Are we to just to stop eating everything? We are all going to die from something at some point. I’m not going to live my life in fear or starve to death.

        • Confederate

The only one mental here is you. Drew B is right in what he says. I live in the Gulf States & travel up and down the Golf Coast all the time & there is NOTHING out there but what happens naturally! I’m willing to bet you’ve never been to the Gulf or the South. Most likely some Yankee city dweller who hasn’t so much as seen a cow before!

      • morris adams

my thought exactly,,, al jazeera?? all that means is it’ll be the lead on msnbc,, not the bank theft in cyprus!!

    • Fianna

Hhhhmmm seen the same thing after the AK oil spill first hand, I would catch salmon in the Kenai River and when cleaning them I would find large sours on the inside.
The game warden was watching from the woods and thought I was wasting fish and was going to bust me to I showed him my issue and asked if he would eat it.
He just shook his head and said in amazement, took one fish for a sample and advise I switch to trout only, then walked away and never heard another thing.
Think about it from the point of view may be a bit easier to not swallow,
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oil_spills

After looking at that list of world wide oil spills, you truly feel safe eating “ANYTHING” out of the ocean??
Lets not forget about the toxic waste dumped in our fine oceans as well

P.S. I MISS SHRIMP

    • Usefuleater

It’s true…there is no difference in the Gulf Seafood except that it is more abundant because of stories like this. I live on the Coast and have not heard of one incident of someone either purchasing deformed seafood or getting sick from eating the seafood. There have always been tarballs on the beach, before any drilling began.

      • ElOregonian

Yea, and the Corne Bayou in Assumption Parrish has a great hotel there with one of those vibrating beds you don’t even have to put a quarter in!

        • Stevicus

Some nice paddling pools up in the tar sands i hear are good for a break !…

      • Joerg Klaemt

        Usefuleater

        >>>>>>>>>>>>There have always been tarballs on the beach>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Yummy……… I suppose there has always been toxic substances and Methane there as well?.
Its not the Tarballs that kill you, but other Toxins and its percentage that is being absorbed over time by the critters that you eat
Like Mercury which is accumulative, hence we do not eat the larger fish here from our lakes.
Toxins on the East Coast Radiation on the West Coast……… lets face it nothing is safe any more.
However if fish show signs of cancerous growth as on the Pictures,I would definitely be worried

    • Anonymous

What I like about these critters, is that they come preoiled and ready for the pan.

    • Ralph39

Don’t eat ANY Seafood. This article doesn’t mention the entire Pacific and Some of the Atlantic being contaminated with several different radioactive nucleotides such as Cesium 137 & 134.

    • Joerg Klaemt

This is nothing you have seen yet, just wait till the Fukushima Radiation hits the West Coast and saturates the Oceans from Japan to up and down Alaska to California and further.
Seafood lovers you will have to switch your diet.
Lets face it we are living within the End that will come sooner than predicted.

    • AUSSIEwill

the asianistics are already in process of updateing there menus

    • clockwork angel

Stay away from the fish filet’s ..last month horse meat now mutated marine life….just saying.

    • Cosmic Charlie

These stories are very unreliable. I do not doubt there are issues in the Gulf but they are so exaggerated and full of drama and only reported at BIN. Hmmmm. I read this for sport and laughs. I do not eat this stuff on principal. It IS toxic even before the “spill”. Bigfoot just stole my laptop! I have to let George Noorey know on Crap to Crap! ha ha ha!
