The Aspartame Issue and Free Methyl Alcohol: Open Letter to FDA: FOIA

Dear FDA:

In 2002 I filed a Citizens Petition for Ban.  The law requires it be answered in 180 days.  The only response from you  was on May 1, 2004 when you said “you had not reached a decision because of a number of competing priorities.”  You were actually telling me you had more important things to do.     It’s now been over 8 years.  Anything more important than removing a deadly addictive, excitoneurotoxic, genetically engineered, carcinogenic drug and adjuvant that damages the mitochondria and interacts with drugs and vaccines, embalms living tissue and causes sudden cardiac death?   After all, 100,000 people died in the last year of properly administered prescription drugs.  Could it be that they were using aspartame?  wnho.net/citizens_aspartame_petition.htm 
 
An amendment to the Citizens Petition for Ban based on an imminent health hazard was filed in October 2007.  The law requires that FDA answer it within a week or ten days. wnho.net/amendment_to_citizens_petition.htm  You haven’t answered that either.

In December, 2009 I got a call from FDA from someone by the name of Delaney.  He told me this amendment was not going to happen.  When I said this had to be answered in writing by law he wanted to know how I knew that.  I said, “Look, people are sick and dying all over the world from aspartame.”  He replied, “So what, we need to depopulate!”  You first!  
 
FDA are scholars at violating the law.  Your own late scientist and toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, reported FDA to Congress for this reason:
 

 Dr. Adrian Gross, told Congress at least one of Searle’s studies “has established beyond ANY REASONABLE DOUBT that aspartame is capable of inducing brain tumors in experimental animals and that this predisposition of it is of extremely high significance. … In view of these indications that the cancer causing potential of aspartame is a matter that had been established WAY BEYOND ANY REASONABLE DOUBT, one can ask: What is the reason for the apparent refusal by the FDA to invoke for this food additive the so-called Delaney Amendment to the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act?” 

The Delaney Amendment makes it illegal to allow any residues of cancer causing chemicals in foods. In his concluding testimony Gross asked, “Given the cancer causing potential of aspartame how would the FDA justify its position that it views a certain amount of aspartame as constituting an allowable daily intake or ‘safe’ level of it? Is that position in effect not equivalent to setting a ‘tolerance’ for this food additive and thus a violation of that law? And if the FDA itself elects to violate the law, who is left to protect the health of the public?” Congressional Record SID835:131 (August 1, l985)

Talking about there being no safe level of aspartame because it causes cancer and violates the Delaney Amendment, I have more questions for you.  There is another reason no ADI should ever have been established, having to do with free methyl alcohol.  So this FOIA wants these questions answered:

1.    How could aspartame possibly have been considered as a suitable food additive in the first place, if the MSDS had been consulted?

2.     Show us how you established a NOEL for free methanol – 10% of aspartame.

3.     What science do you have to support the belief that the body handles
the free methanol from aspartame in the same way as for methanol in nature.?

4.    What science did you rely on to be certain that the chronic (daily)
ingestion of free methanol was safe at the  ADI set – 50mg/kg.?

 
You discuss methanol in a fact sheet and say there are other foodstuffs that we ingest that supply as much and sometimes even more methanol; e.g., citrus fruits and juices, and tomatoes or tomato juice.  Yet in fruit and vegetables methanol is always accompanied by ethanol, the classic antidote for methanol toxicity and takes it safely out of your body. Actually, ethanol slows the rate of conversion to formaldehyde.  Also, the methanol is bound to pectin and takes it safely out of your body as often discussed by Dr. Ralph Walton  – “In fruit you have the antidote along with it. And also the methanol component is bound to something called pectin, in fruit. We humans don’t have the enzyme to split methanol off from pectin. So, in fruit it’s perfectly harmless, but that’s not the case in aspartame,” he said
 
 
Even the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) holds that a safe intake of methanol per day is no more than 7.8 milligrams; however, a one-liter beverage sweetened with aspartame contains about 56 milligrams of methanol.  Again the methanol in fruits and vegetables is bound to pectin and the digestive enzymes to break down the pectin and release the methanol into the blood stream.  (Schachter 1996).  .  This is discussed in the 1000 page medical text on the global ignored epidemic:  Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic, H. Dr. Woodrow Monte in the peer reviewed journal wrote the paper:  Aspartame: Methanol and the Public Health: mpwhi.com/aspartame_methanol_and_public_health.pdf  This goes into the free methyl alcohol in aspartame in detail.  
 
How many times does the science have to be explained for you to accept honest science instead of the manufacturer propaganda?    The FDA tried to have the original manufacturer, G. D. Searle, indicted for fraud under Title 18, Section 1001.   By putting out manufacturer propaganda on aspartame aren’t you guilty of the same law, stumbling the public with false information?  Are you going to ignore these questions on methanol like you have ignored the Citizens Petitions, the Delaney Amendment, and the law on adulteration?  One newspaper article talking about the carcinogenic dyes says FDA has postponed the issue 27 times.  Is that the modus operandi of the FDA to simply ignore what you don’t want to tell the truth about so you can continue to violate the laws?
 
Even Dr. Jacqueline Verrett, the late FDA toxicologist who also worked on the aspartame issue, wrote a book going into the fact FDA knows the dyes are carcinogenic:  “Eating May Be Hazardous To Your Health.”
 
She also testified against the FDA to Congress in 1987.  Remember aspartame was approved in 1981 and she said in 1987 aspartame still hadn’t been approved safe.  That’s because you can’t make a poison show safety.  If you remember FDA caught Searle committing fraud and tried to have them indicted.  You may recall both US Prosecutors hired on with the defense team and the statute of limitations expired. You may also recall that Dr. Verrett said all studies on aspartame were built on a foundation of sand and should be thrown out.  Maybe you would like to refresh your memory:  mpwhi.com/j_verrett_testimony.pdf    That’s why when Dr. Ralph Walton did research on scientific peer reviewed studies and funding 92% of the independent studies showed problems with aspartame, and if you removed one pro-industry summary and 6 studies FDA had something to do with, 100% of independent studies showed the problem.  Only those studies funded or influenced by industry ever showed it safe, and history shows even in original studies the manufacturer was caught by FDA committing fraud.  dorway.com/peerrev.html  
 
This research was done for 60 Minutes in the middle 1990’s and since then independent study after study has continued to show the problems, three on cancer, one on oncogene.    The Trocho Study in 1999 showed the formaldehyde converted from the free methyl alcohol embalms living tissue and damages DNA.  mpwhi.com/formaldehyde_from_aspartame.pdf  I did fly to Barcelona and talk with Dr. M.  Alemany who told me how the NutraSweet people tried to assassinate his character because he did the study.   He told me, “Aspartame will kill 200 million people.”  I suspect it already has especially since it’s a multipotential carcinogen, an abortifacient, can precipitate diabetes and interact with insulin, interacts with drugs and vaccines and can precipitate all kinds of fatal neurodegenerative diseases.  Death is even on the FDA report of 92 documented symptoms from aspartame.  I guess death is the ultimate symptom.   
 
Independent peer reviewed studies have shown beyond any shadow of a doubt how deadly this chemical poison is.  
 
Both toxicologists who worked on site on the aspartame issue have testified against the FDA in Congress for this deadly poison being on the market.  Jerome Bressler author of the infamous Bressler Report didn’t think so much of you either removing the name of one of  the scientists and two of the most  damning studies, teratology, sealed by FDA in 1975.  They were so bad obviously the FDA didn’t want the public to see them.  As Dr. H. J.  Roberts said, they should prevented aspartame being approved.  Jerome Bressler told me about this about ten years ago, along with H. J. Roberts, M.D., and Russell Blaylock, M.D.  In November 2009 we added those damning studies back to the Bressler Report:  rense.com/general88/hid.htm  Lane Shore, Mission Possible Chicago, delivered this completed report back to Jerome Bressler.  Lane has lost 8 members of his family from aspartame and had cancer himself from it. 
 
So FDA  who sealed these teratology studies knew aspartame was a teratogen and would cause birth defects and mental retardation all along.  In 1985 Louis Elsas, M.D., Professor of Pediatrics, Genetics testified to this knowledge to Congress.  His testimony is in this Report For Schools: mpwhi.com/report_on_aspartame_and_children.htm  Now a recent study in Denmark showed up to 78% premature births due to aspartame.  Also, “The European Environmental Association has projected that with the rise of autism caused by toxic foods like Aspartame, MSG, Fluoride and environmental degradation, by 2013 no one will be born in the Western World that does not to some degree have autism.  The American Academy of Environmental Medicine and Dr. William Rae, Director of the Dallas Environmental Clinic agreed in open discussion at the October 2010 annual meeting.   
 
So how responsible is the FDA for every case of autism.  Furthermore, as Jack Samuels truthinlabeling.org ) discovered when he filed suit, FDA has allowed the glutamate people to use aspartame as the placebo for 25 years in their studies because both  MSG and the aspartic acid in aspartame are excitotoxins.  That way the glutamate people can say “look, MSG did not show any more reactions than the placebo”.  
 
Obviously, there are so many questions on the aspartame issue you have refused to answer.  The first one that came to my mind when I found out about aspartame/Equal/NutraSweet, etc. being a chemical poison two decades ago, had to do with the fact FDA admitted aspartame couldn’t be heated.  So it was first approved in dry products like Equal and Jello.  This is a very simple question – if you put Equal in a cup of hot coffee or tea, haven’t you just heated it?  I bet a five year old child could answer that one.   Also, why did FDA in 1993 approve aspartame for baking when that heats aspartame?  In 1996 Dr. Kessler granted blanket approval even though in the secret trade information voluntarily given in Congress the manufacturer even admitted it couldn’t be used for everything.  wnho.net/trade_secret_information_on_aspartame.htm  
 
 
Who are you really FDA?    I remember when the Forestry sprayed an herbalist’s acreage and surrounding areas.  When one of the Forestry members was dying he said to the herbalist, “I’m so sorry, the FDA made us do it.  They said they couldn’t have cancer cured.”  When those responsible to solve the problem ARE the problem its an abomination before God and man.  
 
I have one more question.  Now that a new study has shown that aspartame causes liver cancer why no comment from the FDA?  Surely FDA remembers when the liver damage was found in 1975,  and James Turner, stated aspartame probably caused liver cancer.  rense.com/general92/lungl.htm  
 
As to methanol even Prop 65 mentioned below my signature says that if a product has methanol or formaldehyde it cannot come into California without a cancer warning.  So its well known that methanol and formaldehyde cause cancer!  
 
Propaganda that stumbles the public and can cause their death is not only against the law under Title 18, Section 1001 but it is an abomination.  An aspartame victim, Victoria Inness-Brown, M.A. tried to warn others but so many kept getting FDA and industry propaganda as well as front groups and misinformation from the professional organizations funded by industry  she decided to do her own study.  She bought some rats, which, of course, given aspartame developed tumors.  In fact, if I had to rename aspartame I would call it Tumoroften!  She wrote a book:  “My Aspartame Experiment:  Are Your Diet sodas Killing You?”  You can get a copy on amazon.com 
 
If you really care about safe food and drugs you will answer these questions.  If your loyalty is simply to Big Pharma who gives FDA 50% of their funding, you will ignore them?  The public won’t.  Remember under Freedom of Information you are required by law to answer.
