I suppose we all need to go through some painful mistakes before
we learn how to walk as a blogger. I made them, I am making them, I will make them in the future too. It’s all about how we are capable of noticing them.
Some beginners, even serious bloggers, might forget many things that they were serious about when they began blogging.
As a result, they suffer low visitor rates and might even destroy their blog. Let’s not go there. As a blogger who experimented with more than seven blogs, I can give you some tips that might help you remember some key points.
Witty’s tip no. 1 Never forget research
Do not try to go for mindless blogging. You must never forget the importance of research. As bloggers, serious bloggers, we need to stay updated.
Our readers need to feel that we are updating regularly. It doesn’t matter if you are posting long posts or short ones, do it with an air of authority. If you are writing something about fashion trends, and if you are posting about the ‘hippie’ culture, then you are more like a junkie than a blogger.
RESEARCH before you write something, even if you have some personal experience about the subject.
Witty’s tip no. 2 High expectations
You expect to see somebody appreciate your post. Something you expect because of the excruciating amount of time you spend on writing that article. But you won’t get enough attention in the beginning.
Don’t worry. Those good ‘pillar posts’ would serve you well in the future. Just because the post is gone out of the front page, doesn’t mean that it’s gone forever. GOOD CONTENT WILL ATTRACT ATTENTION no matter where it is.
I’ve lost three blogs with good traffic because I was so into getting my expectations fulfilled. Do not make the same mistake.
Witty’s tip no. 3 Writing like a mad guy
What do you see in a mad guy? He finds patterns that you cannot understand. He thinks about everything in an eccentric way.
You need to make the readers feel like they are talking to someone. I like speaking to my friends and parents alike. Some like to talk to somebody else. A blogger is not necessarily a professional website administrator. A blogger is more like someone a reader can relate themselves to.
I look for this quality in blogs. Write as if you are talking! Beginners do this. As they grow up, they forget their unique nature.
Witty’s tip no. 4 The easy one: responding to comments
You do not have to mention about every comment that you get. But you have to respond do the good ones.
Why? Because good comments come from someone who was really intrigued by your post. They decided to leave a good comment because they THOUGHT IT WAS WORTH IT.
Personally, I respond to criticisms too. I do not know about you, but I believe that a good blog comes from good interaction. Bloggers must never forget this.
Witty’s tip no. 5 The last one: “discipline”
We see a pattern in everything. Think about this scenario where you visit a blog two times in two different days. The first day, you see the date ‘June 7, 2011.’ When you come back after a week for the second time you see ‘June 7, 2011′ again.
What would you do? If I saw the same news after two days, I’d run away from that blog. I’ll never visit it intentionally for a long time.
Every serious blogger needs to have some discipline. We must set a time for daily blogging. If you stick to that, you’ll develop some good loyal readership for sure.
I personally saw the gains from a strict blogging schedule. If you follow these tips, I promise you some improvement for sure.
What mistakes did you make when you started blogging?
I also made a lot of mistakes. How did you solve your problems? Share them.
