5 major health problems caused by protein supplements

There is no question about the need for protein after a workout. Even I take some home-made shakes in a sipper, after workouts (regularly). This is an era of supplements, especially protein supplements. A lot has to be considered before drinking all those protein bars.
Protein is essential for the growth of muscle fiber as well as immunity and metabolism. After workouts, muscles absorb protein and other vital nutrients; people use protein supplements to get the best out of this short time period. But, too much protein intake results in a number of serious problems.
1. It’s bad for the liver: Too much protein from any source (fish, eggs, meat, supplements) result in putting too much pressure on the liver.
2. The body adapts to these shakes: In a few years, the body adapts to this sort of excessive protein. The result? Our body won’t digest carbohydrates and fats.
3. Excessive protein and kidneys: Abnormal levels of protein releases calcium in the blood, and where would it go? It gets deposited in the kidneys and results in serious problems like kidney stones.
4. Starving leads to ketosis: Ketosis is a condition where our body uses fat for energy instead of carbs. Starving the body by cutting off carbohydrates, and stuffing it with protein leads to ketosis. Ketosis puts too much stress on both kidneys and the liver.
5. What about the bones?: Yes, too much protein makes the blood acidic and leads to draining calcium from the bones. Over time, this leads to weakened bones and other problems.
Apart from all these problems, there are allergic reactions. There are other minor side effects such as nausea, fatigue, weight loss, muscle problems and head aches. This is why I stick to normal home-made protein shakes.
Remember that our body requires more than just protein. A healthy, nutritional diet helps get the best out of a workout. That’s the only natural way.
