We must know that the parent-children connection has got a lasting effect on a teenager’s behavior. Nowadays studies proved it. Family factors continue to protect adolescents as they grow older and come in contact with the world. This goes beyond race, ethnicity or gender.

The parents these days do not have the patience or time to deal with such monitoring. So, they leave the kids into the hands of some daycares or maid servants.

The problem with that is how a kid responds to their parents in comparison with some maid servants or daycare teachers. This gap between a parent and a child will eventually create a barrier, which will last forever, no matter what.

It is because of this, the changes in family factors might work against the smoking initiation process. The level of family protective factors were consistently higher in nonsmoking youths in most of those studies that have been conducted by researcher all around the world.

A new study done with 3,473 pairs of white, black and Hispanic parents found out that higher levels of connectedness and monitoring of parents decreased the risk of smoking initiation by as much as 30 percent, .

You see, there is a lasting impact when it comes to a parent’s connection with their kids. On the contrary, if they are abusers and alcoholics, the child will also develop a taste for that. It’s pure psychology.

Even though the level of this protection decreases as the child grows, their connection with their parents remained important in continuing to protect against smoking initiation. This proves that a parent’s preventative interventions discourage kids to take up smoking and all sorts of vices to an extent.

While continued monitoring and connectedness is impossible to establish, there is a significant role that a parent can play in modelling their children. That’s for sure.
