Aspartame's Cancer Causing Mechanism Discovered-FDA Must Ban It

While the FDA and many government agencies claim it’s a safe product, recent research shows how aspartame could cause cancer.

Recent cell culture research by Italian scientists Dr. Renata Alleva and colleagues shows that aspartame causes increased levels of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels. Cancer cells use the angiogenesis to grow, and many drug companies are trying to develop therapies that inhibit VEGF and angiogenesis. Dr. Alleva’s research was published in the journal Toxicology in Vitro and shows that low doses of aspartame can cause new blood vessels to form.

New research on mice by Kate S.Collison and colleagues shows that aspartame causes high glucose levels and impaired insulin sensitivity. High blood glucose levels and impaired insulin function are correlated with poor breast cancer prognosis, as outlined in a recent review in the International Journal of Breast Cancer. High sugar levels and high insulin levels also cause other types of cancers to grow.

Companies that manufacture aspartame and the FDA have previously cited “flawed methodology” to disprove research that implicated aspartame in cancer. Certainly every study ever conducted, including those by companies, can be improved. But to ignore evidence that keeps showing effects on many different aspects of cancer is unacceptable. Angiogenesis causes cancers spread and grow. Hyperglycemia and impaired insulin function are part of metabolic syndrome. Just look at the rising rates of obesity to realize that many people have medical problems caused by high blood sugar rates and faulty insulin signalling. How many people will develop cancer as a result of their high glucose levels and insulin malfunctioning due to their use of aspartame?

Thus, I believe there’s sufficient evidence for the FDA and other agencies in different countries to apply the precautionary principle and to ban aspartame.
