Bad Effects of Thirdhand Smoke

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Are you well aware of the health hazards of smoking in general. You probably knew the bad effects of smoking and secondhand smoke. But do you know what thirdhand smoke means?
Thirdhand smoke is practically a silent killer that can affect our health negatively without noticing it. MayoClinic published a broad description about thirdhand smoke’s health hazards including its definition. If you want to learn more about this thing and want to avoid its risks, then this post will help give you different ideas about third hand smoke.

What is Thirdhand Smoke?

When you say thirdhand smoke, it is described as the residues of nicotine and other cigarette chemicals that are left on different things such as your car seat cover, couch, shirts, hair, skin and many others. So if you suddenly smell these residues on any indoor surfaces, then you are already affected by thirdhand smoke.
If you think that thirdhand smoke is not that damaging, think again! Thirdhand smoke is as harmful as the first and secondhand smoke. It contains cancer-causing compounds which can tremendously affect your health.

Bad Effects of Thirdhand Smoke

Although thirdhand smoke is just recently studied, the possible dangers are all tobacco-related which is not good if inhaled in a long period of time. Going to bars and other smoking areas can greatly expose you to all types of smoking including thirdhand smoke.
You can suffer from different illnesses ranging from mild to serious diseases. This includes asthma, allergic reactions, breathing difficulty, heart problems, lung diseases, cancer and many others. It can also affect your mood as smoke odors can trigger stress, irritation or anxiety to some people.
Thirdhand smoke can also affect your current health condition. If you have existing disease such as skin problems, allergic issues, lung diseases and many others, thirdhand smoke can aggravate the symptoms.

How to Avoid Thirdhand Smoke?

There is only one way to avoid thirdhand smoke, and that is to stay in an smoke-free environment. Make sure that you avoid public places as much as possible, especially those who have smoke zone areas and public transport vehicles.
If you have someone in the family that smoke regularly, request him to go outside to prevent cigarette residues to stick on your furniture or any indoor things. You can well avoid secondhand smoke as well.
