FDA Starts Clinical Tests on New Non-Hormonal Treatments for Hot Flashes

A California compounding pharmacist Dr. Hootan Melamed recently announced that clinical tests on new non-hormonal treatment for relief of hot flashes will begin this month. Tropine 3, the name of the drug showed a significant success if based on a consumer feedback. Because of this, Melamed’s data which has been collected for about six years were seen by a drug manufacturer Eaton Scientific Systems, Ltd. It’s the company that will do the FDA clinical trials.

This particular drug is new. In other words, it has novel indication of Homatropine in an oral suspension. Homatropine by the way is an anticholinergic agent. It acts by blocking the function of neurotransmitter acetylcholine. This substance is usually being used in other forms of medications like cough syrup and eye drops. Acetylcholine meanwhile is a vasomotor stimulant which is being blocked by Homatropine. Therefore, it prevents the presence of hot flashes.

Tropine 3 was first offered in 2006 by Dr. Melamed along with his team from Rox San Pharmacy. If the trials become successful it (Tropine 3) will have a huge impact in curing the uncomfortable “hot flashes”. This particular symptom is often being experienced by women in their menopausal stage. “It is obvious that women across America and around the world could benefit from open access to this new drug, so we are very excited to see Eaton Scientific making progress in executing its plan to seek FDA approval,” continues Dr. Melamed. “The next step will be fully commercialize Tropine 3 and make it available to all women.”
