Use Botox Products That Are Made In The US, FDA Urges People

Consumers were warned with regards to buying discount Botox from websites like Groupon and Living Social. “Most commonly the products are diluted, so the effect is less than optimal.” ASAPS or the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery said that risks associated with unlicensed fillers can range from dangerous reactions to outdated or ineffective products.

Now, FDA followed up their warning to the doctors. “The receipt of suspicious or unsolicited offers from unknown suppliers should be questioned and extra caution should be taken when considering them.” Simply put, it’s your doctor’s job to make sure that the products are on their maximum potential, uncontaminated and stored and manufactured properly.

Last December 2012, FDA warned about 350 medical practices that they may have received unapproved versions of Botox coming from a foreign manufacturer. What’s bad with these unlicensed Botox products especially from other countries is that these medications may be contaminated or even fake. This means that these products can’t be safe.

Moreover, medications that aren’t approved may lack the requirements posted by the FDA in their labels. This is to make sure that proper and safe uses of box are given to the consumers. Without these labels both the medical practitioners and consumers won’t be informed regarding the risks or side effects if these products aren’t used the proper way.

The FDA is strong in its stand in discouraging people from getting products from foreign suppliers. “Among these are owned and operated by Canada Drugs, known under the following names: Quality Specialty Products (QSP), A+ Health Supplies, QP Medical, Bridgewater Medical, or Clinical Care,” say the agents from the said agency. The agency also says that they can’t guarantee that the manufacture and handling do follow US standards thus not clearing if the medications are safe or even effective. Therefore, FDA advises the doctors to simply stop administering them.

It’s the healthcare professionals and consumers that have the responsibility to make the Botox package contain a safe and effective product. “Legitimate Botox containers always contain the word ‘cosmetic’,” says a Botox manufacturer Allergan. Those products that have the word “cosmetic” missing might be the real ones but aren’t approved for use in the United States.

“Don’t hesitate to ask your doctor exactly what you are being injected with,” says another expert. All Botox injections aren’t equal even if they are approved by FDA. “It’s also important that patients go to board certified medical practitioners,” says Dr. Paul McCluskey from www.psiatlanta.com. “They have all the skills necessary to know which is good and which is bad.”
