Botox on Stomach Doesn’t Affect Weight Loss, Doctors Say

Botox has been known for a lot of uses and most especially it’s very much popular with its age defying abilities. With regular sessions using of this particular treatment, persons can get rid of wrinkles that usually goes with aging and appears around the eye, mouth and forehead. However, doctors say that using Botox injection in the stomach won’t be able to help in losing weight as opposed to what many people believe.

Previous studies have been made which says that Botox can be one good solution for those who have problems with obesity. They want to lose weight and they think that this particular medication can help create a feeling of “fullness” and stops people from eating too much.

However, this study was subjected to validation by the researchers from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  They took around 60 obese people for trial. They gave them gastric Botox injections and others were given placebo. After six months, those who got the real one did not show any weight loss advantage as compared to those who were given placebo treatments.

“On the basis of our findings, I would not recommend gastric Botox injections to people who want to lose weight,” says researcher Mark Topazian, one professor at the Mayo Clinic. “There are some risks with this treatment and we found that there was no benefit in terms of body weight loss. Unless further studies show different results, I’d advise patients to seek other means of achieving weight loss.”
